My name is Lenny and I joined the forum yesterday. I am 79 and live in Kansas City, MO. I have been involved with trains for most of those. I was an Agent/operator, fired for short time, was in perishables for 14 years and worked in system engineering. I have been involved with G-16s for 39 years and last year got involved with two foot gauge Crown Locomotives. I was close to getting qualified to running the Crowns before I contracted Covid last fall.

Lenny,

As another 79 year old, who lives 800 miles away, let me welcome you to our railroad museum.  I know KC is a long away from Sheepscot, and a lot further than Virginia, but if you can find your way up to the WW&F you will be welcomed and find many interesting things to explore and help out with if you are interested.

Remember, you are not to old to help out and we all aspire to live up to Fred's example.

Bill

Hello all and greetings from Life Member no. 15. It has been many years since I have been on-line, though have enjoyed reading the informative and friendly postings on this forum. As you may know, my primary interests are learning of what I call, the first generation of narrow gage enthusiasts. To this end, I remain active with archiving and olde fashioned (letter writing) correspondence. Best regards!

Hi I'm Joe Monty. I have been coming up to WW&F as brakeman and fireman for a couple of years now, but have mostly been with Maine Narrow Gauge. Started with Black River and Western as a fireman in 1973, and also volunteered at Toledo Laker Erie and Western as fireman and engineer from 1976-1980.  Also very active with Live Steam having built two locomotives in 1 1/2 inch scale.

Hi Jeff, yes...I do remember your membership number as being one ahead of me. I think former President Joe R. got to you just before he hit me up. Joe had a great recruiting style, he'd say comon' guys, dig deep, we've got a railroad to build...!
Wanted: Copies of correspondence and photographs from "first generation narrow gage railfans" such as Linwood Moody, Dick Andrews, Lawrence Brown, Ellis Atwood, H.T. Crittenden and others. Interested in all two foot (U.S.) rail operations, common carrier, industrial/mill and park/museum.

Hi, my name is Towa from Massachusetts. My interests are in narrowgauge railroads and the waterfront history of WW&F and makes it my favorite. I'm so glad that there are people working hard to preserve what's still left. I've been wanting to visit for a while now so hopefully this winter I'll get a chance. I'm also interested volunteering and learning new skills down the road to help out.

Hello Toya,
Welcome to the W.W. & F. Railway Museum. While you're  planning your visit to the museum, there are many other current and former two foot operations
written about within this discussion forum. Some of those include Massachusetts operations at Edaville Railroad and past sites such as Pleasure Island in Wakefield and the industrial operations in Whitinsville, known as the old Whitin Machine Works. There are a train load of fellow two-foot enthusiasts living in Massachusetts also and I'm sure that they will make every effort to help you enjoy the hobby and answer any questions you might have. Again, welcome!

Hi all, I am Paul Brooks, originally from England but a resident of Kentucky, USA for nearly 25 years. I teach College Writing and am currently conducting research on the Monson RR and Monson Slate Co. for future publication. I am hoping the discussions on that particularly blog herein contained will help fill in some research gaps. I am a railfan, who grew up chasing down lost branch lines in Englands west country. I am also starting to model the Slate Valley RR in 1:19 scale as a homage to the collection of ng railways that served the US slate industry. Look forward to some engaging conversation and discovering interesting stories/artifacts. Hope to visit the great state of Maine during summer break!

Hi Paul,

It's great to have you aboard! I'm sure Roger will be pleased that someone is reviving his Monson Blog. When you do visit us in Alna, be sure to introduce yourself and mention your interest in the Monson. It's great to make connections like this. Not all our volunteers frequent the forum, but you will certainly find some around the museum who recognize your name from here.

/Ben

Greetings, my name is Glenn Glasstetter.  Currently living in Richmond, VT, I will be moving to a retirement community in Cumberland, ME in May of 2025.  In railroading, I am making the big jump from modeling the C&O in HO, with it's H6, 2-6-6-6 Allegheny's, to the WW&F, with it's full size 2 foot gauge Forney's.  Having vacationed in ME for many years and having been in the model railroading community for even longer, I somehow discovered the WW&F a number of years ago.  At every visit, I have been amazed at the rapid progress this group of people have made.  I am proud to now be a member and look forward to being able to contribute on a regular basis after my move.
