I'm Peter Weston, life member of the WWF Railway Museum.  I am also the Vice President of the Ski Museum of Maine, located in Kingfield, ME.  I really enjoy the railroad history of Maine and want to support the mission of this museum.  I'm also interested to see what other non-profits are doing, so we can improve our operation in Kingfield.

  I have not yet visited the RR but have been member of other tourist RR's and the WW&F beats them all in all departments. I am sure you all will agree with me on this. Recently I published one book about a former RR near where I grew up in Indiana and was later a part of the NYC system and abandoned in the late 60's and early 70's. It was a compilation of pictures, newspaper articles pertaining to that line and info that would be useful to model RR'ers amassed from valuation records and engineering reports. I would be interested in doing a book like that long term about the WW&F in the same format. Some wonderful book are available on Maine narrow gauge. I hope to visit soon but Louisiana is a long ways away but much closer than our last location in England (wife is active duty Air Force and I retired from the AF in 2015). We rode several narrow gauge RR's over in England, Wales and Germany.
Look forward to learning more about the RR.

Welcome aboard!  I think we already have a book like that - Two Feet to Tidewater, written by David L. Register and Robert Jones.  They used a number of newspaper resources in their research.  Available in the gift shop!

Two Feet to Tidewater certainly is all encompassing. I have the 2nd version I believe. How many pages does the latest version have? Certainly so much has occurred since 2002.

Hi everybody,
I have just joined this forum from the UK, about 10 miles north of Brighton.  As a lifelong railway modeller in various scales, in recent years I have built and run models in our British garden railway scale of 16mm: 1ft (1:19) 32mm gauge.  Recently I acquired a Roundhouse SR&RL Forney live steam loco which strictly speaking is 1:20 or known as F Scale I guess.  Two SR&RL coaches have been built to go with it.
I have seen, but not ridden in the replica Parlor Car built in the OK for Adrian Shooter, now sold to the Statfold Barn organisation.  Hopefully one day soon we will be able to see it again and possibly board it....
Another interest is the Volk's Electric Railway on Brighton seafront.  Our Association, of which I am secretary, supports the City Council which runs it.
Seeing this forum has a SRRL section, thought I would join, partly to find our some more for future models, including how to access drawings.
One question I have at the moment is what the precise details are of the lettering on the coaches.  I think the fascia wording is usually Railroad Roman possibly 'Expanded' but not the 'Ultra Expanded' .

Hi all,
I just recently became a member and started volunteering on Saturdays and Tuesdays. I grew up in Danville Junction, Maine, a major switching yard for the Maine Central and Grand Trunk railroads, when steam was on its way out. I could always tell the rare occasion when a steam engine was coming through by the sound of the whistle. I would hop on my bike and rush to the junction to watch the train. I have a large "old school" HO layout with all brass tracks and transformer based on the Maine Central in the 1970's. I recently retired from the printing industry where I ran a printing press for over 40 years and also as a volunteer firefighter in New Gloucester, ME where I maintained the town's original 1928 Model A firetruck. I am the treasurer of the Squirrel Island Historical Society and enjoy preserving history. I am looking forward to helping out the museum and learning more about railroad operations.

Greetings!  My name is Jay Wiley from Brunswick.  I have been a life long (almost 60 year) modeler starting off with plastic model cars and planes and balsa planes.  I had an HO train layout in the basement back in junior high and high school but never got back to it after going to college and all that other life stuff.  Three years ago I started a 4 ft x 8 ft layout with a Bachmann "The General" American 4-4-0 set "for the three grand kids".  Well, I now now have four DC powered steam engines and five DCC (Digital Command Control) engines with sound and the layout is 5-1/2 ft wide and 16-1/2 ft long.  I "discovered" your amazing museum about a 1-1/2 ago and have ridden a few times when other hobbies and work allowed.  I have taken my grand kids on a W.W.&F. ride last fall and rode the last Harvest Bonfire train this past weekend which was great fun.  I am fascinated by the operation of the steam engines and amazed at the work the museum has done rebuild it.  I look forward to opportunities to continue to learn and explore and hopefully become part of the volunteer group.  Thank you for all you do.  Jay Wiley
