Hayrides
« on: August 31, 2020, 08:32:30 PM »
The Wilmington & Western Railroad in Delaware has been offering fall hayrides for several years.  I don't know if this would be something the WW&F would be interested in doing.  I think last year you ran trains to a farm near TOM, but I don't remember having an open "hayride" car.  Sides could probably be added to one or more of your flatcars.  Of course, the W&W only uses a diesel on this train (for obvious reasons).

P.S.  Most hayrides I've been on used bales of straw, not hay

Back before, hayrides were offered at Alna Center during certain events, either in a horse-drawn wagon or in the museum's AA Ford truck. Passengers arrived at Alna Center by train, obviously. I'm unsure whether hayrides would be viable during this time of social distancing.

When the pumpkin trains were running last year the folks from sealyon were doing hayrides with the tractor from top of mountain to the "pumpkin patch".

They also did horse sleigh\cart rides during steam & sleighs.

The 2020 "Pumpkin Pickin' Trains to SeaLyon Farm" do include a tractor-drawn hayride. Two tractors/trailers are used, and ticket capacity is limited, so to allow safe social distancing. They will be running Saturdays from Sept 26 - Oct 31 at 11a, 1p, and 3p. A special "Bonfire Train" - which also features the hayride - is at 5p on those same days.
