Bilboards/Advertising

Watch for the 100 foot high billboard coming soon....oh wait, we can't do that (Maine has an anti-billboard law).

We don't want to get people mad at us, but does that include trailers? Here in the midwest it's the semi trailer billboard. "but it's not a billboard, it's a trailer"

I don't know about trailers, but I do recall that the Maine Coast Railroad had a boxcar which was painted bright yellow and had information about the passenger train rides on it.  They used to park it on the railroad bridge over Rt 1 in Brunswick (on the Lower Road) as advertising.  Somebody (State or town I don't know) made them unpark it, probably because of the billboard laws.

Any billboard-like signs you see nowadays are probably grandfathered.  Boothbay Railway Village used to have one in Wiscasset, just north of the Wiscasset Motor Lodge.  When the owners of the land changed the sign went away and they had to get the standard directional signs.

Speaking of that location (where the BRV billboard used to be), what the heck is being built there right now? So far I see a couple of scaled-down, period-looking buildings...and a lobster boat... anyone know what that's all about?

I don't know what's being built right now...the land was slated to become another mini-mall, but I think the developer backed out.

So I'm guessing the Maine Maritime Museum sign on U.S. Rte. 1 southbound near Karen's Kitchen is probably grandfathered as well.  Every time I drive by that sign northbound I think how good a WW&F Rwy Museum sign would look on the back side, facing northbound traffic.
