POLL - Fundraising Special Train
« on: May 18, 2020, 12:37:47 PM »
We're considering special fundraising late-afternoon/early evening train priced at $50 per person, limit of 40 participants. Which of these elements would be most important to you, if you were to purchase a ticket for this train. Note that #1 and 2 are mutually exclusive. Up to three votes can be cast.

This is not an indication of what will happen - merely a way to judge interest in a potential offering.

Someone asked about dates....

Again, nothing is set in stone, we're just consolidating ideas and wanting to judge interest in what such an operation should include.

That said, this would likely be the first public train offering at the WW&F since the pandemic. (Likely Friday 8/7 with possibly a second run on Saturday 8/8.)

If I had to pick, I'd like to see the first public trip to MP 8, followed by the sunset at AC. Really make the trip spectacular..but I am a sunrise guy myself..how come that option wasn't mentioned?? 😁

I like the idea of the trip to MP 8. I also think that works better with the WW&F and F&M cars because they have nicer seating than tossing people in the SRRL combine with it's benches. For $50 a head I'm not sure people would respond well to being put on a bench seat.

Also going to MP8 the combine is a very heavy car with no brakes so you'd be relying on 9 and the F&M car for all the brakes, but 9 would conceivably have no problem bringing both those cars back up the grade.

If it's the first public trips coming out of the pandemic I think the SRRL backdate can go right out the window. It's a great thing but that can be it's own charter for another day (there's certainly options since we have some freight cars with just numbers so it doesn't HAVE to be the express or nothing).

Sunrise at Albee's field.....with the brush cut.   It's THE best shot on the railroad.  :)  Ooooh, I forgot, it's not a photo trip.   :-\

Any chance if ballasting the track and leveling it before running on it? I know the grading is nice, but there are a few dips here and there that should be lifted and at least hand tamped. Just the trackman side of me. Is it anything critical, probably not as I run on track much worse all the time. If someone would like my professional opinion I'm more then happy to do so privately.

Joe,

We have a plan to address the worst of the track surface issues before these trips.  Let’s connect off the forum- it’s related to our conversation last week.

Thanks,
Jason

Even if it was an extra fare, I would like to ride in the Rangeley, the SR&RL parlor car.

We've considered running the Ranegely in conjunction with fundraisers to benefit the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum, and the partnership we share with them. However, all plans for such an event were tabled for a variety of reasons - including the pandemic.

We'll have to see what 2021 brings on that front.
