March 2020 Work Reports

[Alan Downey]

Carlos and Jerry deserve all of the credit for this project. I've just been providing logistical and technical support to keep them going, and they've been working on it most Fridays and Saturdays (and most of Carlos's spring break!) since after the first Grand Reunion.

Very little was needed in terms of internal repairs. Most of the work has been external. There's really not that much internal, but the piston bore was in nice shape- not perfect- but not worth machining. The control valve needed to be rehabbed, all of the seals needed to be replaced, it needed cleaning, fresh lubrication, and one of the mechanical links needed repair. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the renewed machine move under power again soon.


Also worth noting today, is that the castings needed for coach 9's frame arrived. Cattail Foundry did a really nice job on those parts.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic precautions, there is no scheduled work for the coming Saturday, March 18.

I am planning to follow Daves guide lines, and am planning to be there Saturday. I would like to finish roofing, but will not attempt it with no help. So, I will instead be reinstalling the cylinders on the loader and moving the Kubota to Sheepscot for servicing. Also am planning to walk the mountain to plan remainding work to be done before opening.

I plan on being there Sat. Mike, If your doing that I will probably split wood. If we do get a couple more people we could do the roof.

Work done on Saturday March 21:

* A select few finished the roof on the Pavilion. 
* Linda was also in the gift shop re-arranging it after the floor job. 
* Fred split wood.
* Mike spearheaded putting the cylinders back on the front end loader.

An abbreviated Alna Town Meeting was today.  Our warrant article for the archival space in the town office was tabled until later in the year when the scare is over.

I felt today was a completely different enviroment at the museum. All of a sudden, we had personal space. No congregating in the house. We did form a circle at AC once, but we were spread out.

That happened when the president came through on his inspection tour to ensure compliance with the COVID-19 edict.

Glad to read youz guyz got some important projects done. And being where you are hopefully keeps you away from this depressing virus crap. Keeps my morale and interest up.

Outdoor work only. I am not planning much.. But maybe something can be done. We finished the roof last week so now everything can wait..

Used the wood splitter today until 10:30 than went to check on Mike. He was covering the trusses with wafer board I gave the museum to protect them. Who knows when we will get back to building. Brendan and James were working on the car barn. Zack help me splitting Wood. Dave was there to see that we were 6 Ft. apart. More like 300 Ft. Had a great time. Going home, I saw so many cars on the road, I thought everyone in Maine was Christmas shopping. I guess their Two weeks of staying home is up.Thanks Dwight.
