August 2019 Work Planning
« on: July 31, 2019, 06:58:34 AM »
Anticipated work for Saturday Aug 3:

* Mountain Extension: Mike and his Wonderous Traveling Machines.  I think Mike plans to bring the dozer north, and continue on ditching.
* Boxcar 67
* Car barn extension
* Picnic prep: Linda's probably setting up the basement for the Picnic yard sale.

Mike and His Wonderous Traveling Machines sounds like the title of a children's book.

Mountain Road Show?? Those machines have definately earned their keep the last couple of years. Between Brendan and I, we have moved a mountain of dirt..

I only expect to ditch in the afternoon, as I'll spend most of the morning jockeying things around.

James was away today, so I will see what we can fill in.

Dozer got moved North. A turf war was started. Casey won..

Fred cut the wood up that was hauled to Sheepscot this morning.

Not sure what else happened at Sheepscot, other than lots of visitors..

Picnic yard sale sounds interesting. I am not certain as to what it entails, but it might be similar to what we call a "swap meet". People bring along vintage car parts, bric a brac, all sorts of interesting rubbish, and others come, from miles around. Stall holders pay a small fee and everyone has a wonderful time, searching for their dream item. Maybe there is a possibility for such an annual fund-raising event at the WWF Ry? Probably selling food is where the real profit arises, as usual.

 Ridership Saturday was terrific. We had 52 payed tickets on the first train plus about 12 kids. The other three trains had about 22 to 25 each. This didn’t include John McNamara being taken up the line to do repairs and bringing him back a couple of times.

The yard sale is held in the basement of the Percival house, and the proceeds thereof benefit the Archives.  People donate stuff all year to sell things in it.

I suppose more properly it should be called a basement sale.

We haven't yet had a swap meet (that I'm aware of).  Perhaps once the pavilion is erected we can do it, as everything will be under cover then.

87 rails ready for FWW. Just over halfway there in a week. 270+ rails left to sort out. And 50 odd rails to crop and drill later on, and find a home for the 65 lb rails.

Saturday Aug 10: Annual Picnic

This felt like the best picnic in a while.  Despite the weather (a few thunderdownpours mixed with sun), more than 200 people came out to enjoy the day.  The first class train was 4 coaches (full sized enclosed coaches) and every train went out well patronized.  The second class not so much, and the flatcar was not popular once the rain started.

Mike did stuff on the Mountain.

The board meeting went almost 4 hours.

They were all running at the Annual Picnic in 1998 and 1999.
