Tomorrow is forecast as a very rainy day, so we’re delaying our outside work.  Wednesday will see the switch worked on and hopefully completed.  Thursday we’ll prep to lay track.  Well lay track either Saturday or the following Tuesday.

Paul, that looks like the hydraulic power unit for the flanging machine.

It is the flanging machine power unit.  We moved it out of the shop for Alna Day.

Anticipated work for weekend of June 15:

* Track laying - the spur/ramp track, need to get that built so the MNG equipment can start arriving.  That should be done before noon, the speed at which we work.
* Boxcar 67
* Ditching?  Mike.
* Trimming ROW
* Train ops: Saturday is the Mason's charter (no crossing Trout Brook) in the afternoon, Sunday is Father's Day.

It seems  a wise decision to me . No risk for now but in the future this charter should be limited to TOM. given a precedent

The tamper isn’t quite ready, though it could be with little effort.

We are quite starved for crew on Saturday.  As such, there’s very little chance we’ll be able to organize any track work.  The new ramp track will be tackled next week.

Tamper repairs complete.  If the vice grips fall off just reapply them as they were.  Some time when it’s convenient one of us can weld a clip on in place of the vice grips.

Work done on Saturday June 15:

* Ditching: Mike spent time ditching at Sheepscot Mills, and shipping the material off elsewhere.

Other than that, we had just enough people to run the operation today.  Not much else happened.

I did manage to put 39 ticks out of their misery today, just from myself. Dave had one at lunch which gives my leatherman a new one day total of 40..

I also did manage to get the culverts draining at Sheepscot Mills. The east one under the road was full to the top. There is about 4 inches of muck the whole length of the bottom of the pipe, but it is draining. The one on the west was over half full. The ends were full of gravel. I ditched north of the crossing until I got the kubota stuck. Managed to get it out by anchoring to a tree, and then the truck.


First order of business. The bug spray would not spray, but the can still had some in it.. And I wanted it..



2nd load before unloading at Sheepscot. I had another dumping spot in mind, but it was too muddy to make it in.






Looking north from the crossing. The disturbed soil on the bank is where the Kubota was mired. Once it broke through the top grassy layer, it was axle deep.



South East ditch



South West ditch. Ground level was at the bottom of the pipes that are sticking into the ditch about where the power pole is. Now about an 8 inch drop..

The photos don't really do justice to all the ditching work Mike did today.  I was on train crew today, and we were all impressed by the amount of ditching Mike has done at Sheepscot Mills.

We had a small stream of passengers for all trains today, plus the Masons held their annual event at Alna Center.  We ran a 5 p.m. train up to pick them up.  Beautiful weather today -- nearly everyone rode in Brian's open car rather than coach 8.
