Event Pavilion for Alna Center - Official Reassembly Thread

The spindly legs of the pavilion and the openness of the construction make it a natural, non-invasive part of the landscape - almost like a grove of trees. It would be nice to keep it that way.

Saturday, I put in a pipe quickly before the board meeting.







Sunday, was hay and seed day, trying to finish up and move to the next project.

North end of the field at AC, I removed the pile of loam and used it around the pavilion. I raked this area up some and leveled oit a little more, throwing the rocks into the woods.



Now Fred needs to stay off this for a few weeks. He had ventured through here and mowed some to the north.



Pavilion.. Done for now. I used all 12 bales (sorry Fred) and could have used more. Thanks to Little Johnny (until he quickly lost interest and climbed on the equipment), Little Johnnys Dad, and Little Johnnys Grampa for the help today.





















There is more to do between the front of the building and the ballast pile, but is being left alone until we decide what to do.

Just a guess on my part, but if they spread grass seed, the hay will keep birds from eating the seeds before they start to grow.

The hay also acts as a trap or filter for small particles of dirt when it rains, slowing down erosion.  Also it provides a  bit of shade for tender seedlings, which may also help retain some soil moisture.

Using hay is somewhat similar to using a manufactured "seed blanket", but a lot cheaper.

Note that "hay" likely retains seed pods of the original [hay] plant, whereas "straw" is mostly seed free. In our case the volunteer seeds hitching a ride with the hay don't matter, but in some situations hay would not be a first choice due to the seeds.

Yes, the hay is all of the above. Erosion control (actually specified when working in permitted areas), keeps the birds from taking the seeds, and more importantly keeps the seeds from burning up in the sun, and retains moisture. Hoping to see grass growing soon.

My first job was as a stablehand. I learned there the difference between straw and hay, at least as far as livestock goes. Hay is used for feed, while straw is used for bedding. I believe straw is the by product of harvesting grains, while hay is grown specifically for feeding animals.

There are TWO charters (Masons & Cub Scouts), plus the special event BBQ/cookout at ToM.

If the WW&F is to invest in a "BBQ" facility, strong consideration should be made regarding a "Trailer mounted BBQ".  We currently have THREE sites that we serve food to large groups at. A trailer BBQ could serve all 3 sites.
