NO ROOM AT SHEEPSCOT FOR SPRING 2019 WORK WEEKEND
« on: March 23, 2019, 03:40:43 PM »
Sonja has informed me that all accommodations in the Percival House for the Spring 2019 work weekend have been claimed.

Those seeking a place to stay are reminded that the Wiscasset Woods Lodge is open. Personally, I have found reasonable accommodations using Airbnb, as well as hotels in Brunswick.

If anyone wants to camp on the back 40 adjacent to Alna Center, message me. There's no running water or utilities, but if you have a tent and like roughing it- this could be your ticket. Plus, commuting distance, which has its perks.

I don't know if this would serve the museum well or not, but has the idea of having a small RV/Camper area ever been discussed?  I bring it up only with the idea that it may help some members spend more time at Sheepscot because of not having to budget for hotels, etc.

John;
A few years ago we were offered a camper. We declined the offer because we didn't want the extra work it would have caused (maintenance, cleaning, etc.) and because it would be one more thing in our yard that was used only sporadically. We are also mindful of what the town might think of our openly providing housing, however temporary.

Alna Center has good cell phone and magneto phone coverage. BYOCP and/or BYOMP ;)

The porta-potty will be there.

As long as there's no zoning problem with short-term tents/RV parking in WW&F Sheepscot lots, I'd encourage it.
What about the new overflow lot...driveable?

What if a person has his own camper or RV? May he park on site for a day or three? With or without power and water? Steve, what about at your place?

I've parked my camper next to the ramp into the Percival house before. I think as long as they know you're coming they have no problem with it.

Which reminds me...I need to send the powers that be an email about the work weekends.

In the past when I would come up for a couple of weeks in the summer I would park my small RV in the Perceval house parking lot.  There are no hookups but one can use the bathroom facilities and the shower in the Percival house.

Wayne,

We've still got a bunch of excavation to do around the house and general construction going on so right by the house, where an RV would make sense isn't available right now.

It's okay, Steve. I don't have an RV. I was just wondering.

I asked Sonja if I could sleep in the trunk of my car for spring work weekend and got a hard no.  I’m guessing that extends to rv’s.

Get a small tent, a sleeping pad and a sleeping bag. Alna Center is a nice quiet place. Ask Steve P. That's what he and Annie used to do.

Brian, others,

I just spoke with Dave about staying in your car over work weekend.  There is no policy against this- not sure why you were told otherwise.

In any event, you are most welcome to stay in your car.  As to RV’s, there’s also no policy against them.

For any general inquiries, it’s always best to address them to the President.  The President knows of any standing policies or where to find them, and if there are others who should be asked.  If those don’t apply, the President can often render decisions right on the spot.

Thanks,
Jason
