Are there any plans to cut that big group of hemlocks on the inside of the curve south of sawmill curve?

Not this weekend Brian, but yes, we will be cutting them. It may be after the Spring work weekend and use a chipper to take care of the brush, and put the wood on the flat like we did a few weeks ago.

Revenue freight falls into a whole different ball of wax that we do not want nor need. Definately not something we are set up for at this time. It would require a waiver on liscensing our crews, certifying our equipment to specific tonnage ratings, labling our freight cars for said tonnage, etc, etc, etc.

Not to mention Joe, if we're hauling revenue freight and mak'in no money we might have to paint all our motive power blue and "Consolidate" our operations.   :o

Work done on Saturday March 9:

* Mountain Extension: The last trees for winter 2019 were cut today.
* Guided Tour: Dave played host to dignitaries from Boothbay Railway Village
* Flatcar 34: Zack's got about 2/3 of the planks on.  He'll get about 3/4 done, then stop until the brake rigging gets on (since it's easier to install from above than from below).
* Car shop: Jay was sheathing the south wall.
* Line clearing: A large crew of people went along to clear the line.  A delivery was made to ML&M, and most of the crew toured his shop and got the low-down on the Amoskeag fire engine.  Then at ToM, the loco went down light down the hill and people got the tour there.
* Board meeting: we were out by 7:00.  Win!

We have 1 tree to cut in Sheepscot that will be in the way of future track. And we can find other work at Sheepscot too. If it is decided that some would rather go to TOM, we can certainly do that instead. Plenty of work..

Work done on Saturday March 16:
* Flatcar 34: The stirrups were installed, and some paint was applied.  Waiting on trucks and brakes before the last of the boards are put on.
* Shop tool organizing: Three brand new toolboxes were donated, and Alan wanted us to go through the existing toolboxes and try to organize and consolidate.  Two toolboxes were emptied (or partially so) and claimed by the Garage department.  There's still plenty of room in the new boxes.
* Shop insulating: Jay was busy putting up vapor barrier and boards on the southeast corner wall of the extension.
* Bulldozer and other machines: Mike was tinkering with the dozer to get it running, was successful and flattened out some snow piles.  I think he was tinkering with the Kubota too.

Spring is in the air - it was mid-40s today.

Moved some snow to try and speed up the melting, and get the melt water flowing where we want it. Plus it gave me some time to make sure everything was working. No leaks so far..

And moved a little snow at the parkinglot entrance to improve visibility. I did not move the big pile on the house side because I was trying to keep gravel off the lawn..

I looked out at lunch and noticed the water running down the driveway, so I fired up the excavator and dug this ditch in the ice before I removed the bucket.

One thing this winter has taught us for sure is that rain does not seep into frozen ground. We will have ice on top of the ground and frost for quite a while this spring. I am anxious for the frost to leave the ground so we can get out there and start hammering out some track projects before our "busy" season reduces the track crew size drastically. Typical track work days depend onmy availability, but am willing to set up a good plan for anyone interested in leading a work party on a saturday.

We lifted B&SR boxcar 56 off of it's trucks today. The trucks are going under B&SR flatcar 34. When boxcar 56 is rebuilt we will use the swing motion Bridgeton trucks that are under WW&F flatcar 126 and 126 will get a new set of common bolster trucks.

The trucks sitting on the roundhouse track where we picked up the car.

Next to the coal pile at the bottom of the driveway.

In the parking lot after squeezing between the house and the bathrooms.

Placed temporarily on the west side of the parking lot.
