Maine Locomotive and Machine switch and siding

The main line was cut today to put the switch in for Maine Locomotive and Machine.

Work train being loaded up at Sheepscot.



Kubota being dropped off at the work site.



Pulling up 60' feet of the mainline.

















Laying out new ties and switch parts.

Very nice, can they use the Main line to test equipment when it is completed?

Very happy to see this coming to fruition.  The crew got a lot of work done today, judging by the photos.  Perhaps just in time, based on the weather forecasts.  The season is changing...

I was just wondering what frog number this switch is.  Maybe someone has said but if so I missed it.

#6 frog, and the track is going to go into the left bay of the building where the track is already.

No 8 frog, actually Joe.  Our entire system utilizes no 8, except for the ToM north main switch which is no 10.  Most points are 12’ 2 degree.

Some of our freight equipment objects to no 6.  As it is, the local degree of curvature in a no 8 switch exceeds 30 degrees.  This is tolerable given the short length of closure rails.
