Edaville Equipment Roster, Ex-WWF/B&SR Flatcars?
« on: October 19, 2018, 05:55:36 PM »
Posted to facebook by Joe Card earlier today was an Edaville Roster from the late 40's or early 50's. There's one bit on information listed that states that flatcars 30-33 were Ex-WWF;B&SR. Could this be a typo or did Edaville actually obtain flatcars from the WWF, possibly through the B&SR?

Also note the last line on the paper stating that 8 other flatcars and 1 boxcar were dismantled and stored for future use. I assume that some of these cars later became Edaville's open air car fleet.

Attached is a picture of list that was posted to facebook.

It is possible that some flats may have gone to Edaville, but I doubt any went via the B&SR.

In 1934 a Mr. Heath visited the WW&F and made a record of the location of all the cars on the line.  The ones he couldn't find he noted as scrapped previously (whether they were or not).  All of the flatcars were accounted for, there were none "missing" from the roster.  A number of boxcars were noted as "scrapped".

There were 41 flatcars at the end, a number left in Wiscasset.  I suppose it's possible that Linwood Moody had Atwood buy a few, if there was any left after the WWII scrap drives.

I imagine that if there really were any ex-WW&F freight cars on the B&SR or Edaville (which I doubt), they could be identified by the design of the couplers, with the pin on the bottom rather than the top.,

They also would have had common bolster trucks.  So far, the only common bolster trucks we’ve seen out of Edaville are under B&SR boxcar 50- home built by Bridgton in the 1880s.  At that they are the daintiest (read: spindly) arch bar trucks I’ve seen, with very small arch bars and pedestal castings.  Very appropriate looking for the 1880s car.  50 is going to ML&M, to be restored and reunited with its sister 51.  51 is already restored, but lacks the dainty common bolster trucks; it has the typical B&SR swing motion trucks.

Of course with all the truck swapping at Edaville there’s no assurance that 50’s trucks are original, though I theorize they may be as they may have been un-appealing for passenger service given their design.  A little photo research may turn up a more definitive answer.

See ya
