Bill,
thanks for kind comments.
Weed control is a big issue for us. What you saw on the blog was a small, environmental friendly test with acetum (? or what it is called, i.e. acetic acid + water). Not a total success.
We have for decades used Roundup (guess its a universal name?). But with the Green party in the government, even the use of this chemical (that is used on all farmland) is more and more restricted. With new rules in play, we had to send two guys on a week long course to learn how to use it in an eco safe way. And we had to buy a new certified spraying equipment (US-built). This has cost us so far almost as much as the new tamping machine!
We don't have any pictures of it on the web (too big risk to get green activists chasing us).
We are up to many challenges: creosote has been almost been banned several times in the EU, oil spill from the locomotive machineries and coal firing are always issues ... Keep us on the tip of our toes.
Dag
PS. Don't misunderstand me, our earth and environment is the most precious we have, and we have to take better care of it. But sometimes the details are just a little hard to get...
