The second shot of that flatcar looks eerily similar to pictures of scrapping operations in the 30s...

This was "reverse scrapping." Also known as "scrounging."

You know Wayne, after physically lugging those couplers around as much as I did, my back did not give any protestations the next day. Frankly I was amazed!
