Sorry Joe -- I can't make Thursday.  Travelling between NH and Mass that day.
What–me worry?

Work done today:

* Fred was attempting to trouble shoot the magphone line, and probably found the culprit - one end of the conduit under Albee's Crossing was crushed and the wire mangled.  He and I pulled a new wire through the conduit.  He was going to connect the ends.  Later he got the compactor that Mike wants for this weekend.
* Stewart was busy dismantling more wall between Bays 1 and 2.  I assisted.
* Harold was doing coach plans on the computer.
* Jason was wrapping his head around various Alna ordinances.

Still am not sure why. I thought there was talk of heating bay 1? This is a big change in the shop. I will take the plywood north though. I need to make or have made a slide for some rocks to be dilivered by rail..

Bill, maybe we can plan to do track work on Thursday? It would probably be just the two of us, but all I really want to do is jack and tamp a handfull of spots.

Joe, I should be available Thursday AM if you need a hand. I'll have to head out around lunch time though.

Steve

Work done on Saturday August 26:

* Culvert replacement: Mike brought the compactor up and used it.  I don't know the outcome.
* Car shop: More clearing out of stuff, Zack removed the top half of the concrete forms, the last of the underground crosspieces were removed, the bottom foot of the Bay 1/2 wall was removed, and the space was cleaned out.
* Ice Cream Social: Good crowds for the ice cream.  Over 180 tickets sold, I don't know ridership.

I will be down Wednesday for track work sometime in the morning, and plan on staying most of the day. I would like to start by 830, however it depends on when I get out of work.

Joe - I will be at the museum Wednesday.  I did tell Fred yesterday I would help him with telephone line work Wednesday.  Hopefully that won't take a lot of time.

I'm planning on tamping being the principle project on Wednesday, and encouraging the majority of the crew toward that.  I'd like to do this (track as major project) once per week now through the work weekend.  I hope this can dovetail with Joe's availability, but we will proceed regardless.

Joe, if you can, please drop me a line when you know your weekday availability, and desire to work on track, so we can dove tail that desire with other major crew projects such as the shop overhaul or helping Mike when he needs it.  Wednesday next week works perfectly.

On Tuesday we'll hit the shop project hard.

See ya
Jason

I also plan to be at museum this coming Saturday (the 2nd) and can help Fred then with the phone line, if he is willing to wait until then.  That would free me up for the day Wednesday for track crew.

Not great pictures, but here's a few to give an idea how Alna Center looked during yesterday's Ice Cream Social.

12.35 p.m., showing a northbound #9 at Alna Center.  #52 is bringing her train (coach #8 and open car #103) into the siding. #9's train consisted of coach #3 and B&SR #11 (Thank you Boothbay Railway Village!).

1.33 p.m. found #52 southbound with her train on the siding awaiting the arrival of the northbound #9.  I understand the lawngames were popular!

1.33 p.m.:  A brief slow moment at the ice cream tent.  The photo doesn't show it, but the volunteers at Alna Center had a busy day.  It was very nice seeing all the young families enjoying the day yesterday.

Sorry I couldn't get more photos.  Aside from the event, there was a lot of work by volunteers going on all along the line -- at Sheepscot, Fred working on the phone line north of Rosewood, and Mike at the culvert installation.  I'd say a typical Saturday in Alna.

Thanks to Steve Z. and Jason we now have phone service to the Harp switch at TOM.

And thanks to Fred.  Fred has spent a number of days recently troubleshooting and fixing the line north of Alna Center, including this past Saturday.

Having phone service all the way to TOM will come in very handy for Fall Work Weekend.  We could have used it during the Spring Work Weekend!

Thanks Fred.
