« on: August 02, 2017, 06:00:21 AM »
Anticipated work for weekend of August 5:

* Mountain ROW work: More excavation, Mike talked about putting down some stone for a base for the culverts.  He may need help.
* Shop floor prep: Must build more stacks of ties, may need to dig the hole for the center post base.
* Yard sale prep: Linda may need help with that.

A bit more on the shop floor:

* The last tie stack is almost done, we need to set, jack and shim the last temporary support timber.

* The excavation for the center post footers is done, we need to build the concrete forms.  The cement mixer has been moved to bay 3.

I still anticipate setting atleast one culvert this weekend. I will need help for that. Diesel and a flat car. Two guys on the crane and a few on the ground to guide the pipe into place. I expect this after lunch. The crane will have to be set up and tied down. And this is all weather dependent.

Unless it was changed at the last meeting, the board meeting would be next week (the 12th).

Work done on Saturday August 5:

* Mountain ROW culvert replacement: Mike spread out the stone at the bottom of the hole, then in the afternoon he and a crew lowered the first culvert section into place.
* Shop improvements: The hole for the center pole support had been started earlier in the week, was finished today.  Zack started working on the concrete forms.  The I-beam was shoved deeper into the building.
* North Yard Switches: Bill B got some bolts, was working on some things.  The first switch is in a usable state, if you're careful.  Lots of parts lying around on-site ready to be used.
* Ties: Fred and crew brought a flatcar load of ties to the sawmill siding.
* Board meeting.  Minutes will follow eventually.

If we can muster a crew, I would like to finish setting the other pipe Saturday morning.

Day before yesterday on the car barn track 2 switch the transit clips were finished and installed. Yesterday the spacer bars were cut and installed south of the point heels, the spacer bar was drilled and installed midway between the points and the throw bar was drilled and installed at the facing end of the points.  I spent the afternoon with Mike's crew at TOM putting in the first pipe.

Today, thanks to Steve L., Phil and a few others, the car barn track 2 switch was completed and is now in service. Late in the day a few of us found a switch stand for track 3 that we got working. Tomorrow we hope to get the throw bar parts freeded up and finish machining the second point. After drilling 19 more holes we can start putting the track 3 switch together.

Anticipated work weekend of August 12:

* Annual Picnic: help needed in cooking, serving, set up and clean up.
* Culvert settting: weather permitting, early in the morning.
* Train operations: potentially the second class train could be a diesel-hauled passenger train.  Plus there's an evening photographer special.
* Re-enactors: A WWI re-enactor group will be setting up shop for Sunday.  No, no trench warfare, they are getting ready to ship over to Europe August 1917.
* Car shop: pouring concrete for the central post footing.
