Moderator preferences

I would prefer that you use your real name as a user id to login with.  If for some reason you are unwilling to do this (for example, you are well known in the discussion world using a particular identity), then please sign your posts with your name.  I'm pretty sure there's a signature box that you can include.

Until after 50 posts.  I can change this around if people are tired of seeing the word "Newbie" after their names.

James,
50 posts?  Wow.  The way I make comments I'll be a newbie forever (wink).

Guess we all lost our seniority on this roster! ;)
Thanks for straightening out the forum problems, James.

Opps,
I used my real nickname to register (instead of just Pete,) before I read this posting.
Sorry.
(It may be a good thing, though,...
"Too doggone many "Peters" in this place.... "
"That's what SHE said,..."
"Then the bed broke!" ;)

I did the same thing but you have the power to fix it yourself. Got to Profile then select Actions on the left side and 'Delete this account.' Once I did that I couldn't register again until I deleted Cookies in my browser (Firefox).

Perhaps a message could be put on the registration page to use your full name.

You don't have to change your username to have your display name be your real name.

Near the top of the page, click PROFILE. On the following page, on the left side under "Modify Profile", click "Account Related Settings." Then you can change the Display Name that people see.

For example, I still log in as elecuyer (my std. username for all discussion groups) but my display name (on this forum) is 'Ed Lecuyer'.

BTW, I agree 100% with James that using/displaying your real name is very beneficial. It helps people who don't get to Sheepscot very often "know" each other when they do come. (No one would recognize "narrowgaugetraingeek123".) In addition, it eliminates inflammatory posts. While this was very rare on the old WW&F forum, it is very common in the railfan community and many discussion forums in general.

Of course, sometimes I think I'm better known as "Emily's Dad" - but that's besides the point  :)

Ah!

Very nice to use nothing but real names. I can't bear all those anonymous internet people saying rude snotty things that they don't have to stand behind. Of course I wouldn't expect that from a bunch of nice choo-choo buffs, but you never know, I've heard a few heated grumbles about the Sheepscot gang being a rich boys club!

Speaking of, I moved recently so I should probably update my membership info and see if my dues are in arrears.

Meant to come back to Maine this summer to have my first look at the operations but my wife and I are having a baby so it's got to wait until next year (we live in Los Angeles). It's hard to believe I've been obsessed with the WW&F for 20 odd years and never made a visit to the revival. I love the photos though, and the plow train last winter was real neat!

Hi James,    Pt Paul = Paul Wiggin. I'll sign my replies with  my name from now on. I don't have a problem with that.   :)
