Getting this type of tie inserter would no doubt make trackwork  much more attractive and much easier on backs and legs. Hope somebody tracks one down.

Sorry for being slow on the uptake here. Wayne, Dad reached out to a manufacturer of the tie inserter you have pictured and was turned down instantly. Dad asked the guy if it could be or how difficult it would be to modify to 2' gauge. The guy immediately said that it would put to much pressure on the track and would not work. After trying to tell the guy what we planned to do with it, Dad finally gave up.

Nothing saying we can't find one on our own and modify it though.

I'm not at all surprised the manufacturer said it wouldn't work. But I have seen this one in action, and it does the job just fine. I have put out a few feelers to short-line folks I know, but no response so far. I do not believe this machine is currently in production since most small railroads have either purchased somewhat larger machines or use contractors for tie work.

It was a different manufacturer. They were concerned the modifications would put additional stress on the unit and the track. The type pictured os a different construction, and would work well for us in most locations
