I have thought about the corrugated sheets, but cost is a big factor in what we do. A simple fill, starting at the bottom and compacting in layers will work. The slide happened because of poor drainage which saturated the slope, and the trees and roots that were growing there pulled everything down. This top soil accordioned on its way down, pushing most of it clear of the slope.

It would be worthwhile, I think, to dig some holes along the bottom of the embankment and set some old rails in place, with heavy wire mesh stretched along them like a fence, to help hold the foot of the fill in place.
