Good idea Marcel. Also, when working with trim pieces that always want a snug fit, or pieces that will frequently be removed, I drill the piece I want to attach with a pilot hole at the shank diameter and the piece it is being attached to with a either one pilot hole under the thread width or two graduated pilot holes. This way, the trim board is always drawn up against the main piece.

Folks,
I assume that the new doors were delivered sometime in the last month. I hope to see some pictures of how the doors were hung inside the now combine. Since there are two of them; it will make the car into a very useful piece of passenger equipment. Perhaps on a Thursday morning?

As mentioned earlier, only one door was planned and will be hung for now. 8 is actually still a coach with one, side handicap door, since it does not have a partitioned baggage space.

Did any of the original WW&F coaches have toilet facilities, or are Maine folks tougher than the rest of us?

Yes. Coach 3 has one, although without fixtures.

Randy Beach and his team have really done a great job to get our Coach 8 modified per the original WW&F drawings for a baggage door, which will greatly assist our mobility impaired Museum members and our visiting guest.

The door project, like all our other projects such as the Dairying Car, Number 9, the current box car project and Number 11, the recreation of our buildings, and the list is endless, are all representative of the skill, craftsmanship and diligence of our volunteers.  A wonderful group of folks who are all lovers of narrow gauge railroading and are recreating history to share with current and future generations.

It is one of life's privileges to be a participant with such a wonderful group of people, and over time and in many small parts, add to the overall achievements of our WW&F Museum.

Absolutely, Bill. I always look forward to seeing and enjoying progress on the many fascinating projects, as, I'm sure, lots of the other WW&F fans across the world do.

Super job. Would suggest a couple door "D" handles mounted vertically, one inside just above the latch, the other outside  between latch height and car floor for easy access from ground level.
If you ever plan to run with the door open, a detachable safety chain or bar fastened to the outside door jambs at waist height would work.

Per WW&F practice, the door stays closed when the car is in motion.  A period correct handle will be installed inside in the center of the door.  This will be a copy of an  original B&SR heavy cast handle that we are making duplicates of.

During the 2023 Fall Work Weekend, Eric Schade is leading a crew replacing damaged exterior wood on coach No. 8.  Work started today (October 6th).

What–me worry?

Some images from today, the second day of Fall Work Weekend.

The lower exterior sheathing on the west side of the car was removed today,  Note the yellow paint on the bottom stringer, indicating Edaville used at least on open excursion car stringer to build our coach in 1986.

Eric Schade installing the replacement sheathing on the west side later in the day, as J. B. Smith looks on.

Meanwhile, Dan DiTullio replaced sheathing on the east side.

And the south end of the car was prepped for painting.
What–me worry?

A couple of photos from early today, Monday, October 9th.  Talking with Eric, I learned nearly all of the wood replacement work had been completed.  He was planning to work on the last four trim pieces to be replaced.

What–me worry?
