I could be wrong, but I think only the regular Edaville engines have steam heat connections on them. I was actually considering hooking the line up on 3 last Saturday since we were running with coach 8 right behind the loco half the time.

We have limited shop time, and a full plate.  The first door is proof of concept, while we also focus on flanging machine development, boiler construction, boxcar completion, and prepare to construct a new coach from scratch.  Adding the second door is on the list- where on the list depends on how the first door goes.

See ya

Paul, Steam heat has never been used at the museum. Steam pipes are on coach's 3 & 8. But Loco's 9 & 10  do not have steam heat piping or valve's.

Thanks, John

Dwight,

I guess I never noticed that coach 3 had steam pipes.  Were they original?

Bill, not sure. My guess is, added at Edaville.

Oh, I forgot. Open car 108 also has  steam heat piping. Edaville installed plastic glass on the sides opening and added doors to the ends. I rode these cars many times. With the steam heat on and a full load of passengers. The "windows" steamed over, everyone on the car would keep wiping the windows so they could see the Christmas lights and displays.

I was wondering if you would have any use for two brake shafts with ratchet wheels and pawls from a standard gauge caboose. I also have a number of cast iron brake wheels. I can send pictures and any measurements you would need.

We might be able to use them; we've yet to research what J&S put on our cars originally.

Send pics if you can,

I have finished up some 4x4 quarter round posts for the door.  Randy donated some rough sawn wood, turned out to be butternut!

Rough door opening cut into coach 8.

Coach 8 was probably rebuilt from an open passenger car. The side sill is painted yellow and you can see where the railing was mounted.

Edaville installed a second floor over original floor to cover burn damage when the coach was rebuilt after a fire.

Very neat! Butternut is a beautiful wood, and increasingly rare.

Here is a picture of one of the two baggage doors (handicapped access) for coach 8.  Both are complete.  The dark spot in the lower left corner is simply water from the plastic that was over them.  When I return from Peru I will get the glass cut and install the windows.

Unless someone wants me to do otherwise, I am leaving them unpainted or stained as my paint doesn't match coach 8 nor would I have any idea what color stain to use.  I could prime and paint the exterior, but it will be a different shade of green, as were my windows.

I guess that gives Randy and Jay another task for the SWW.

I am off tomorrow to ride the 3' Ferrocarril Santa Ana from Cusco to Auguas Calientes, just a short walk up a very steep 'hill' to Machu Picchu. Pictures to follow in the "Two Footers outside the US section".

That's beautiful, Bill!

The stiles and rails look like red oak, but what kind of wood did you use for the panels?
