Drop Box E-Mail Message
« on: December 01, 2016, 07:31:41 AM »
To All,

If you receive an e-mail from me (Dave Crow PE), that mentions a file within Drop Box, PLEASE DELETE the message!  I received an e-mail from another museum member and I trustingly tried to open the attachment - since it is close to the Christmas holidays, I figured it was an electronic Christmas card.  Nope, I had phone calls and e-mails from several folks on my various e-mail address books, so it is not good!

My three e-mails are:

david.e.crow AT parsons dot com
dcrow1050 AT aol dot com
dcrow1050 AT yahoo dot com

My work laptop is now quarantined from the corporate server until the gurus can come in and scan the hard drive for anything nasty.

I am truly sorry for this inconvenience.

It should be noted that for the last 24+ hours there has been an ongoing email spoofing attack worldwide (fortinet.com show this). Just please be careful in what attachments/emails you open, and scan them with free antivirus programs (avast ect).  ;)

I, too, have been hit by it. DO NOT OPEN any Drop Box mail from me. It is SPAM and you can not eat it.

As a follow-up to my original post, the computer gurus went through my hard drive and found no damage or malicious critters lurking therein; the attachment just replicates itself out to everyone you have ever sent a message.

I had this happen to me a few years ago in an email attachment and Hotmail ended up locking my account for two weeks because they saw that my account was sending out spam. It was a PITA to make a new account and try to migrate everything over. So even though it might be just a replicating email, the companies that you have your email with might lock not only your account but others that your account emailed, so buyer beware.  8)
