"... the country's only two-foot narrow gauge railroad!"
« on: May 23, 2014, 04:55:34 PM »
I sat down to look at the mail after work tonight and opened a letter from the MNGRR by Donnell Carroll enclosing the Annual Report and requesting a donation "To restore the vision of preserving the country's only two-foot narrow gauge railroad!" Underlining added. Who knew? Wonder what those guys in Alna are up to? Do I need stronger glasses?

Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has been said. I know they mean well, but the spokesperson(s) need to better research their statements. I, actually we (my family), owe the fine folks that used to be at MNGRR a big thank you for pointing out the WW&F. Without them, we would never have visited so early, which led to Joe wanting to volunteer, which led us to doing it again, and again.....

Just change the word "country" to "county" and the statement is correct.

Who knew?
Not I.

Wonder what those guys in Alna are up to?
No good, no doubt.  I've met a few of them.

Do I need stronger glasses?
Yes.

I, like Mike, owe MNG many thanks for introducing me to the WW&F at a "Railfair" table in their buildings many years ago. The table was manned by an old gent and a young guy.  :)

p.s. I wonder how the Cripple Creek & Victor folks would feel about this.

Like the previous 2 posters, I also owe the MNG a thank you for enlightening me to the existence of the WW&F museum. I also owe James and Jason a thank you for talking to me and convincing me to become a member back in '99 during my first Work Weekend visit. Since then I, and now my wife Barbara as well, have become first members then life members. Had we not learned about the WW&F back in '99, we never would have met the great bunch of folks who have since become friends.

Folks,
It is common in the museum world for people who know little about the railway/railroad museum business like that to make miss statements. For the record there are two-foot rails in: Alna, Maine, Boothbay Maine, Portland Maine and Phillips Maine.

And do not forget that the smaller Edaville Railroad in Carver, Massachusetts has just opened the huge new Thomas Land. And it all runs on two-foot track.
