Merci car
« on: May 05, 2009, 01:34:26 PM »
The Boothbay railway Village is the owner of the Maine Merci Car.

The Merci Car came to the US in 1949 as a gift from the people of France to the People of the USA. 49 cars were loaded with gifts given by individual French people as a train traveled across France. The entire train was shipped to the US and arrived in February, 1949. For the full story of the Merci Train see

In honor of the 60th anniversary of its arrival the BRV has launched a major program to restore the car, including its 40 full color 'coat of arms' displays for each French province. We plan to build a pavilion over the car and a brick viewing platform.

We are now actively working on the fund raising for this project. We have sponsorship opportunities for the 40 coat of arms and for the bricks in the platform. See the BRV site
