Philip Marshall:
Great video, Hansel. I really like the graphite smokebox.
Also, where did the new whistle come from?
Allan Fisher:
I opened my Sunday Newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, and found an AP photo of Monson #3 and the Polar Express Train with the headline - "Full Steam Ahead for Polar Express' Holiday Season" on page A11.
"Steam emerges from a vintage 1913 locomotive as the Polar Express gets under way Friday in Portland, Maine. The popular train, based on the well-known children's book, has rides scheduled throughout the holiday season for about a mile and a half along Casco Bay to the 'North Pole' ".
Pete "Cosmo" Barrington:
WOW! SF Chronicle... that's BIG time! ;D
Bill Sample:
Thanks for sharing the "Concert of Whistles." Hansel. It brought back memories of the 1967 Christmas at Edaville - four trains running and at least B&SR #7 & #8 had two whistles on each. #5 was also steamed up, on standby I guess, near the turntable. Six different whistles echoing across the bogs - a sound to remember. Got a cab ride in one of the Monsons, and as we passed through the pine forests I thought of what it must have been like back in the day, in Maine. This was the day when my love of the Maine Two Footers really began. That was 48 years ago and 48 years before that all 5 lines were still running, just finishing up their best years.
