Museum equipment pics from the Edaville era 10, 8 and 103

I was looking for pictures of B & H 67 at Edaville and found these two pictures. The first picture is No. 10 then Edaville No. 5 being placed on display in the Burlington, MA mall in 1973. Second picture is from the Carver, MA fire department's historical website showing what is now our coach 8 on fire ironically coupled to 103 at Edaville.

Wow - never realized that the fire was that serious. They did quite an extensive rebuilding - must have been everything above the frame. Wonder if this was about the time that the historic B&SR coach "Althea" was torched?

Hi Bill,
My understanding is that these cars and the Elthea were damaged in the same event.
I recall the fire was started by young trespassers who decided to light a fire in Elthea's stove.
Perhaps one day the "Elthea" will be replicated, as it WAS the second fanciest coach on the Maine two footers after the "Rangeley". But I'll probably never see it.
Best Regards,
Glenn

Wasn't Coach 3 also damaged in that same fire?

two comments. 1, I heard the kids started a fire in a stove and they did not notice the stove had no stove pipe.
2. while looking at the fire at 200% I see a 2 and the 8 looks like a 6 to me. Or was #8 numbered #26 at one time?

Dwight, yes, I believe our Coach 8 was numbered 26 for a time at Edaville.

Our coach 8, as I recall was built by Edaville as their no 26 in 1984; burned 1985; rebuilt 1986.

The trucks from the Elthea (B&SR coach 17) are in Phillips now under SR&RL coach 18, so the little bit that remains of the car is at least being put to good use.

Hi Philip,
Do you know whether SR&RL 18 got any other Elthea metal-work, like the platform railings, couplers, truss rods or truck bolsters?
Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glenn,
That's a very good question to which I don't know the answer. I do hope some of the other hardware is still around. My information source for the trucks being used was Bob Troup.
Best,
Philip

I was in Phillips on Friday and had a few minutes to look around the railroad. The Elthea platforms are stored behind the roundhouse. The railings, couplers (minus knuckles) and brake wheels are intact. No truss rods. We didn't see the bolsters but I recall Wes Spear saying that they were on the property. That conversation was about 15 years ago.

Thanks, Stewart! It sounds like the majority of the hardware made its way to Phillips along with the trucks, which is good to hear.
