My wife and I visited BRV today, since I am a member and she volunteers there once a week. After the train ride we wandered over to the Model Railroad display and inside there was George McEvoy. I'd seen him once before. I introduced myself as Treasurer of the WW&F and he was very complimentary of us. While we were talking George shared with me that at one point he was looking at extending the tracks to downtown Boothbay (the town, not the Harbor) with 3 trips a day, but the thought of going under FRA rules killed that idea.
The place has really changed a lot since I was a kid 40 years ago. Back then the rear of the loop was the end of the museum, with a big wooden fence/gate. I used to wonder what was behind it (turns out it was an antique auto building!). Inside the loop where the parking lot is now was narrow gauge tracks to some display cars behind the station. Where was the W&Q boxcar then? No idea. Later it showed up in the display track on the hill behind the loop, I don't recall when but I think it was the beginning of the development of the rear of the museum.
Now I was very surprised to see a house behind the NE corner of the loop. I hope they like the whistle.
Afterward I peeked in the car shed and looked at the Franklin & Megantic car. Nice.
