3/29/14 Come say goodbye (for now) to #4
« on: February 19, 2014, 11:37:04 AM »
Barring any exemptions from the FRA, Monson #4 will make her final appearance under her current form 4 on Saturday, March 29th.

Equipment is currently being evaluated, and is subject to change, but hopes are to run #4 pull-pull on a mixed train for the event, with photo run-bys scheduled for each trip. There will also be a night photo session that will again feature the mixed train.

(poster's note: If you want to direct questions through me, and not the museum, that's perfectly fine. I will do my best to get a reply in a prompt manner.)

Isn't the Pondicherry one of the coaches in the Museum?

Nope. The Pondicherry was moved out of the museum two (or maybe three?) years ago. It has been used as a first class coach in the Polar Express and as a regular coach for the Roaring Twenties events since then. Occasionally we'll roll her out just to put her on the train, too.

Items of note from the (now up) webpage for the event. (http://www.mainenarrowgauge.org/farewell-to-engine-no-4/)

Daytime steam trains will operate at 1:00pm, 2:30pm, and 4:00pm. Regular train fares apply during daytime service and ticket prices include admission to the museum. As a special treat, the museum will host a night photo train at 7:30pm! Railfans and photographers don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to capture this unique historic locomotive one last time!  A special $25 fare for the night photo train applies.  The $25 ticket is good for the entire day and includes museum admission, unlimited train rides, an evening photography session and behind-the-scenes tours of the engine house!

Nice video. Hopefully #4 will be ready for its 100th birthday in 2018.
