I bought an air whistle a few years ago but Jason said it wasn’t loud enough. I returned it.

ML&M 100 (Brian’s Brookville) has been designated a track car for this very reason: it doesn’t have a sufficient audible warning device to protect crossings.  It’s also got a very limited number of qualified operators and we expect its use will be very limited, though we are extremely grateful that Brian has made it available to us.

Whistles use a lot of air.  Putting on a whistle on air loud enough to provide sufficient warning at crossings would be too hard on most small locomotive air systems.

My rule book is upstairs with my Maine Museum RR clothes, but doesn't that mean we have to make an exception for 100 pushing both the chipper work car and the log flat car?

Track cars are load restricted by the general order which designates them a track car.  In this case we declared hauling capacity equivalent to 52.  The designation was really all about crossings.

It is not something I would be comfortable in very long. Front and rear windows are tinted, and with no wipers really made visiblity tough. Low headroom, but that could be fixed by installing a different seat. Stopping at every crossing was not a real issue as I was travelling at a reduced speed anyhow. It does ride nice compared to the 52. Coil springs work well at less than 8mph..

Bill B. 52 pushed flat car 118 in front headed north and had as crew riding car caboose 320 on the south end.

How about an Electronic System (used?) cost less than a good whistle.
Though I could donate one. Came from a Traction Engine.

But with Electronics you could have any sound you wanted - including a bellowing bull.

Excellent series of black and white photos, Brendan.  Nothing I could see to indicate the year they were taken - could have been the teens or twenties!

Timeless nice pics. Thanks for posting them. They do show how much you guys have been dedicated to rebuilding  an historical railway and not a tourist attraction for 30 years. By the way have you plan a special event to celebrate WW&F Ry Museum 30th anniversary ?

Folks,
        These pictures from 2013 do not show much winter railroading. Now however there is a lot more of it with various events in the snow for the photographers and the snow shoe crowd.
