Maine Eastern connection?
« on: November 18, 2013, 05:49:47 PM »
I have been a "lurker" on this message board for several years.  I was interested in a rail-related article that I read mentioning that next summer AMTRAK's Downeaster is going to have a timed connection with the Maine Eastern railroad tourist train.  Wiscasset is one of the stops on the Maine Eastern route.  I would imagine that the Downeaster connection would bring more railfans through Wiscasset.  Alna doesn't seem to be very far away from the Wiscasset stop.  Has anyone investigated the possibility of some sort of shuttle service between Wiscasset & the WW&F?  The Maine Eastern Mid Coast Limited stops eastbound at 1:35 and stops westbound at 4:35 which would allow 3 hours assuming your schedule could be timed to coincide with this layover.  Just a suggestion.

Roger, there has been discussion of this topic, but unfortunately in the Members Only section. I don't know whether one can join the forum and become a "member," in that limited sense, without buying a membership in the museum. I hope somebody else will post the answer to that for you.

Hansel, you should now see the Members Only section.

Roger, you have to become a member of the Museum in order to get to the Members Only section.  It's just $30/year.  For your convenience we take PayPal as well as most major credit cards (and of course cash/checks)!  Simply go to the webpage and click on the Donate button.

James, do we now also take bitcoins? (Whatever they are? You, being an IT man, probably know what they are and whether we accept them.)

I have a vague knowledge of what bitcoins are - an online form of payment that is similar to a foreign currency in that there's no fixed value of 1 bitcoins equals X US dollars, but instead the value floats.  Beyond that I have not looked into it at all, so I'd guess that we don't accept them as payment.

As of this moment 1 bitcoin = $475.  Perhaps I should look into it more.  Its currency chart looks more like a logarithmic scale than anything else (see http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=XBT&to=USD&view=10Y)
