Residing the Carbarn/Shop

Stewart, for the carbarn residing from T-111 to B&B, did we cut battens from extra boards by trimming the shiplap edges off and then cutting the boards down to batten width?

Hi Dave,

The old section of the east wall of the shop was re-sided with board & batten in April of 2009.  I was not there for the lumber prep so I can't say how we got the battens.  You could make battens from shiplap boards but there would be more waste than from cutting straight lumber.

Stewart, I worked on some of that re-siding job and I do not recall ripping boards for battons. Perhaps the boards had been ripped prior to my time there but I thought narrow pieces were purchased at the correct width.

Start,

At the risk of hijacking this thread, I dug through photos from past work weekends and found some incriminating pictures from April 2009:

Marcel and Duncan installing battens:

Cutting battens from extra(?) boards:

And our resident photogrpaher caught in the act:

Thanks for the pics Dave,

Looks like the battens were ripped from extra siding lumber.  That's what we will do for the garage project.  The last photo shows not only SH but Emily putting yellow primer on the shop addition siding.  She was real excited to help that day.
