Prebles flag stop returns

The Prebles flag stop returned from the Maine Heritage Village tonight. The MHV is moving in a different direction I guess and asked that the building be removed. Anyhow Stewart and I learned that a flashlight should be on the list of tools brought along when moving a small building.

That explains why the Boothbay RR Village station was gone when HWMNBN and I last
 stopped in. Thanks for the safe return. Perhaps we should relocate it to EOT? Or leave it Sheepscot as is so visitors can obtain information when we're closed.

Thanks for moving it! I was curious why the all of those "classic" cars were parked at the Heritage Village...I was thinking that Prebles could temporarily replace the dairy car when it hits the road. That would give the museum a continued presence on the wharf... but seeing it along the railroad whould be nice too.

And I was thinking it would be a nice auxiliary section house to accommodate some of the less frequently used tools.

I stopped by the Heritage Village back in August; it was my first visit to see all the buildings.

Isn't Prebles an open-front station, sort of a lean-to structure?  In any case, it's nice to have it back at the museum.

My thought; Move it to the EOT for now. Gives a place to store tools and some other MOW components. Furthermore, once the tracks into Head Tide are in place, there would be already be a structure ready to serve as a station.

How long would it last at EOT before being shot by someone who thought it was a moose or deer?

How about Trasks?

That would be a close equivalent to what Prebles probably looked like back in the day - an isolated station at a dirt road crossing. Might make for some good photo ops.

I have a data point about structures at EOT. A few months ago, the telephone box at EOT was attacked. The door was badly damaged, and the lock was rendered unusable. The miscreants evidently thought the box was full of gold bars, given all the work they went to in their effort to gain entry. Once they succeeded, they didn't damage anything. I have since replaced the door and installed a twig in place of the lock.

I think there are two alternatives at EOT:

1. Install a locked door and expect the building to be damaged.
2. Have an unlocked door (or no door) and expect the building to be used as an outhouse.

I think it should be kept at Sheepscot.

Trask's might be a good place for it - that way the family can use it as it was intended!

Actually, I meant Sutters, not Trasks - but either location would be good.

Trasks is kind of close to Alna Center, but then again, having it on an active driveway would be a strong deterrent to vandals and hunters.

I always thought if the building returned from MHV, we could find a use for it at the Top of the Mountain, if/when track reaches there.

Yes -- I was very curious why the Boothbay exhibit was gone this summer.  Now I think I know why.

Has any consensus been reached concerning Prebles flag stop and its proposed location and/or function? Just curious.....
