Was Bridgton Jct. a scheduled stop for Maine Central passenger trains? If so, there would be no need for a signal to flag a train. The signal on the station roof was most likely a train order signal, which the station agent would set to indicate to approaching trains that he had order for them. Depending on the type of order, the train would have picked up orders "on the fly," or they may have been required to stop to sign for the orders. The signal would have indicated to the train what action was necessary. I think I agree with James, that the object in question was probably a light, or it may have been a light on a mail crane to enable the RPO clerk to see the mail bag awaiting pick-up. Or maybe it really was Thomas' face......

I guess the face is better than a ball signal.  Otherwise the photographer could say he got the plow by the ba .... um, nevermind.

Ok, coming back from the Isle of Sodor, there is a cross arm in the photo. Looks even with the circles.

Stewart, I'll have to do more looking. I saw no Flanger signals in the Mountain Division book. I'll have to look at my other MEC books.

Hi All
Had a few minutes tonight to try to figure this one out.

Two Feet to the Lakes, page 130, top photo,  January 2, 1937.....

There it is. A flanger sign just before the bridge.  Hidden somewhat by the platform  roof post  but ,looks clear enough to me.

Thanks Ed. When I scanned the photo to put a copy in my book, it came out very clear. Mystery solved
