Point well taken John. Perhaps a center dump car then...

The dump idea is good although what will make it very usable for ballast is to modify the tailgate to include  two "hatches"  located over each rail and then a chute piece(s) that can hang on the back to direct the flow.

I am indeed in the design stages. No swivel. One end dump. Three "shuttle gates" built into one full tailgate. I have a car in mind for the project. Just need to acquire it.

Here's a photo of a dump car built by the folks at Rockhill Trolley Museum in Pennsylvania. The hoist is a hydraulic pump powered by a 12-volt battery.

First attempt to attach didn't work. Let's see how this works.

I though you guys already had some MOW dump cars that are listed on your roster of your Museum Equipment which are Tipcar's #1001 #1002 & #1003?

Hi Matthew,

We have one tipcar (1001). 1002 & 1003 are just chassis - no dump apparatus remains.

The 1001 tipcar (as mentioned above) isn't really useful for ballasting operations - the ballast ends up too far away from the track. In fact, in the many years I have been involved with the WW&F, I have never seen the tip car used. It is usually kept on panel track that is disconnected from the main line.

I *think* I saw a picture of a dump car that the Silver Lake Railroad (Madison, NH on the Conway branch) uses. Something like that would be useful. I'll see if I can find the photo...

I don't think the tipcar has been used since we replaced the culvert north of our yard limit.  I'm guessing that year would have been 2001 or thereabouts.

I could only find 2 photos of the Silver Lake dump car:

Something like that  (but smaller, of course) would be pretty handy.

The tipcar was used for the foundation of the water tank. Was that before or after the culvert date?

Water tank foundation was poured in 2005.  Tank went up May, 2007.

I helped do some fill work with the tip car one summer with a friend I brought along. We shoveled fill in from one of the crossings then rolled the car down to the dump site (could have been the culvert - not sure). Can't say for sure but it was in the early years of 2000.
