Let me echo Bill's thanks to Jay for the time and effort he's put into getting 51 running again.

When I was there in May I was amazed at the detail that Jay is taking in rebuilding the Brookville. It is a true restoration of this valuable diminutive locomotive in our collection. Those of us who work on various track projects, myself included, are very appreciative of all of his efforts.

That kind of small engine is very usefull. Always ready to give a hand to move a  cold steam locomotive or a car on the yard and I think it's easy to drive. We have such a small diesel engine at AMTP built in 1920 MTP# T14 and it's the first motive power a volunteer is entitled to drive. It underwent a general overhaul except for the engine in 2014.

It's a bit too small to move a cold steam engine.  It struggled to move #10, it can't move #9.

Thanks for the clarification MTP #T14 weigh 1.65 US tons and is able to move all the motive powers even the big #12 21US tons but for this one it  required quite a lot of sand on the rails and some skill and practice. By now when they need to move #12 they use  a more powerful diesel engine. # T14 is also able to haul a few small open cars.

I hereby recommend the PROPER name of this locomotive be:
         ... "The Brookville Bomber"....
... OR: "The Brookville BRAWLER."  ;)

Update on the Brookville:
Functionally, the Brookville is finished. That said, it needs to get it out on the line to run vs. idle in the shop. The hope is to have the unit enter service while completing restoration of the sanders, which in the past were never operational or utilized (other than as trash buckets).

Until the test run can be completed, the locomotive remains out of service and is listed as such in the current Time Table. Look for a Bulletin Order that will officially announce it's return to service.

We’ve been looking for a minute to test the Brookville on a day that Jay is there- after which we’ll change the status and make a general announcement that is available for use.  At the moment, because of the upcoming special operations, we don’t have a place to park it inside where it won’t be trapped by other equipment- so it’s not yet “hop on and go” anyway.

I do apologize we haven’t gotten the testing done yet- the new tamper has been parking it in so we can also make progress on that.  Wilmar moves today in prep for the big events so there’s new hope.

Thanks,
Jason

I happened to be at the right place at the right time to spot Jay sneaking in a test run in the midst of all the activity this morning.

Bulletin Order 9-4-2021 indicates that Track Car #51, the Brookville, is now back in service.

Bravo to Jay for getting this completed!
