2011 Victorian Christmas to be featured in TRAINS
« on: October 13, 2012, 11:15:47 PM »
Be sure to buy the December issue of TRAINS magazine, available in November.  I'm told by Wayne Laepple that there will be a multi-page article about our Victorian Christmas celebration. Words by Wayne Laepple, photos by Stephen Hussar. Many thanks to both of them! :)

True to the old adage "A picture is worth 1,000 words," Stephen should get the majority of the credit. They are gorgeous.

Preview video posted at:

We are also on the 'cover' of the video.

They also posted two photos at:

In the magazine, it looks like they made an editorial (PC) correction to the title of our event: the headline reads "A Victorian Holiday." (err.)

Congrats to Stephen and Wayne for the publicity!

Stephen is a fantastic photographer, Wayne, but it was your words in Trains several years ago that got me to join the museum, not the old photos of the original railroad.

Just got back from the Gaithersburg Railroad Show.  Over the three day event several people came up to my table to tell me they saw the Trains article.  Most said that they have either ridden the line and enjoyed it or plan to ride it in 2013.  It's nice that Trains used the Sheepscot Station photo as the center spread shot.  It's a well done article by Stephen and Wayne.

The article is about the Sunbeam car at Robert Todd Lincoln's Hildene estate in Vermont. The car, by Pullman, and the photos, by Hussar, are fantastic.

Ditto on Steve's beautifully composed photography. Its nice to click on the museum page just to watch the slide show of his pictures. I love how he captures the scene.

Department of Corrections: in the Hildene story in Trains, an egregious error occurred. Somehow I got Presidents Garfield and McKinley mixed up. Garfield was assassinated in 1881, before "Ortego/Sunbeam" was built. It was actually McKinley who used the car. I thought I'd better get that out there before someone else catches it.

We also got a nice mention under the topic of "favorite Maine holiday traditions"  in Down East magazine on pg. 16 of the December issue.

I'm assuming the Down East magazine mention described by Eric is the same posted on their website:

Very nice -- a real tribute to everyone who keeps the museum going day-to-day.

And the article by Wayne and photos by Stephen are a terrific presentation of our museum.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!
