« on: April 01, 2012, 06:54:22 AM »
Alna, Maine Telegraph Newswire Story;

A group of investors, led by local businessman Joe Schlabotnic has announced the opening of a new guest house in the Town of Alna.  The establishment is to be constructed along side of the narrow gauge railway.  Amenities will include a wide porch for watching trains, a parlor for writing puns, large closets for storing photographic equipment and a sound proof room for singing, yodeling and playing the kazoo.

Fine food will be offered to the guests.  Mr. Schlabotnic states that he has hired the Sweedish Chef from the Muppet Show to prepare the finest quizine.  The Stardust Lounge will have top of the line beverages on tap. Among them Whale Tail Pale Ale, Black Label, Old Moose Drool, Rolling Rock and Old Card Table (who's motto is "Two shots and your legs fold under you")

The Inn house farmacy will dispense Ben Gay, Geritol, Vitalis, and horse linament.  The investors have noted that room rates will be a reasonable $30 a day per railfan however an additional $50 will be charged if you bring a troll.

The guest house will be known as the Curmudge Inn.  Advance reservations are recommended.

Hey Ken,

Can't be an April Fools joke.  I heard it on shortwave on the The Walter Winchcar show.

Hey John,

Thought you'd like that. I've heard that Mr. Schlabotnic is now selling life insurance in Bangor.   O'course I figured some of the audience would like the Walter Winchcar program too.  You can listen if ya have enough wire going up in the tallest maple.  :o

Anywho... the Curmudge Inn is gonna be big and our Julius can get that ten percent discount.

I'm surprised this guest house doesn't also serve Narrow Gauge Rail Pale Ale.

I know it's April 1st, but is there such a thing? Berkshire Brewing Co out in Deerfield MA makes an excellent brew called, "Steel Rail Pale Ale"
btw, getting quite a chuckle out of this thread!

James,

We'll have to ask Mr. Big if he will add NGRPA.  Maybe I can tend bar.  That brew should help fill the place with ... you know, those who are young at heart but slightly older in other places.

Standing by the tap system (waitin for the rest of the place to be built) Stewart

I was operating from memory when I was trying to think of the name of the ale, but of course I got it wrong.  It's "Iron Rail Pale Ale" brewed by the now-defunct Narrow Gauge Brewing Co. of Farmington.  It may go well with Steamer Stout.

And there is always"Rail Yard Ale" by Wynkoop Brewing Co. here in Denver.
Durango, Colorado has "Narrow Gauge Ale" by a local brewery. Great painting of a D&RGW 2-8-2 on their delivery trucks.
No foolin'

Then there is 'Railbender Ale' from the Erie (PA) Brewing Company - good stuff.
