Boxcar color

I'm building a junk building underneath my son's elevated play house that at age 20, he has long since outgrown. So I've decided to make the lower floor look like a vertically sheathed boxcar. What shade of brown or oxide red do you use and can it be obtained at a hardware store? Exterior latex or oil based?

The museum's freight cars and caboose are painted with Benjamin Moore brand Cottage Red.  It's an oil based gloss alkyd paint made from Moore's base 110 4B.  Regular oil based paint is no longer available in Maine so we may have to get paint from a marine supply store when we paint car 65.

Thanks, Stewart. I hope the neighbors don't complain about this in the woods but I don't think they can see it and that is what counts for neighborhood covenants. I may have to go to a marine dealer, too. I never thought about that.
