Grate job an nice workmenship. Guess it helps to be in an area that has a good supply of wood. Do not know what the materals is costing but it would be expencive ,not to mention hard to even get wood like that here in Arizona. Is it fir or pine?

The boards are pine. The wall studs and cross bracing are rough cut hemlock. Zack is trying to use where practicable the material they used on the original building. Some concessions have been made like the steel beams used to create the open floor space. And the 2nd floor decking was chosen for stability purposes I believe.

Thanks for the info Mike. As for using the steel beams to open up the stalls in the extenion. I would have to say great as the old shop building, from pictures I have seen was quit open. But they most likely used large wood beams of sizes that would be hard to get these days. Making the area more open will make for a better work space.

James,  Will the interior walls be covered or left as is in the present pictures? Looking forward to the new out side light on the south wall.     Fred L. Kuhns

I am unaware at this time any plans for the interior walls.  If it is to be heated I expect we will insulate and put up wallboard eventually.

As of 3 pm Saturday, the boards were going up on the West Wall. I forgot to take my camera so no pictures. I will take some this Saturday. No work will be done on it this Saturday because of the train show in Springfield.

Here's a photo from Monday:

There were 15 inches of snow that fell the day before.

James,

What a great photo of the extension.  It certainly highlights what teamwork and dedication can accomplish.  Congratulations to all involved.  Job well done so far.  Ahh, nice 15" of snow too.  Thanks for sharing James.

All you people up there are doing a super job and the extension looks great.  From my perspective and from what I am doing currently (caregiving along with my wife for my mother-in-law which is almost 24/7), appreciate that you have the time to do this work.  There are so many things which can keep one away from doing what they like (I'm not looking for a pity party here--it's just life).  I'm glad that things are always moving in a positive, forward way on the WW&F.

The roof may not look like 15 inches, but I can assure you the unplowed parking lot did have it.  It took Jeff Verney a while to plow it all out.

C'Mon Dave. 15" and you are surprised the roof held? I don't know what kind of buildings you have in your yard, but up here, we build them to last. ;D

Just a playful jab Mike! When I watch impressed on what goes into construction at the Museum I get ticked off all over again at the alleged contractor that did the renovations on my house over 20 years ago. I'm still fixing things.
