I believe my favorite 2footer was SRRL no. 16 as she was big but not so big that she could not run anywere on the Sandy River lines makeing her a very useful engine.

Chicago EL is and was standard guage. Forneys were used but not narrow guage.

My favorites are the 2' NNG-16 Beyer-Garratts of Africa and Wales. I have never seen one live but I hope next year to cure that.
Meanwhile it is the big tender type 2-6-2's of Maine.

Ira,
I didn't think about it when you first posted, but are you going to Texas?

Bob Bucher has not invited me, although we do have mutual friends.

Mike,

Ira would have to go further than Texas to see a NNG-16, because the locomotive you are referring to is a NNG-13.  However, apart from some differences in the pony truck arrangements, the two classes are almost identical.

Matt,

I'll follow in Ed's footsteps here since my job is writing technical documentation.

If something is 'scraped' it means that you are getting it ready for paint.

If something is 'scrapped' then it is being cut up for scrap.

Big difference, especially in the world of railroading. Thank goodness we are doing a lot more scraping than scrapping. Don't forget to keep asking your friends in Illinois to send us money. Divide it as follows:

- WW&F: 25%
- MNGRR: 25%
- SR&RL: 25%
- B&SR Return of the Rails: 25%

Names and addresses for where to send the money can be provided very quickly. Same day turn around for potential donors of $10,000 or more!

Hi all
My favourite engines are in order of most to less most :
  • SR&RL #23 (I am currently building in 7/8n2 scale)
  • South African NGG16
  • DHR B loco 0-4-0 (building as live steamer in 7/8n2)
  • Bierra RR Falcon 4-4-0 (ran where I was born)

In honesty I like all two footers I see. I only wish there was at least one in Southern Ontario.

cheers Ferd
My passion is building two foot gauge railroads in a scale of 7/8"=1'-0" - My primary interests are Maine Two Foot, DHR, WW1 Light Rails, NGG16's and Bierra RR.

For any American visiting the Welsh narrow gauge, a visit to the Brecon Mountain Railway should be a 'must'. They have the Baldwin Pacific that originally worked on the Port Elizabeth cement company's railway. See the attached photo.

Beautiful - She would look fine sitting on the turntable at Phillips.

I think Brecon Mtn. No.2 would also look just fine at Sheepscot.
I wonder how the folks at Brecon Mtn. are doing with their full sized reproductions of the SR&RL 10 & 23?

Among my favorites I would have to include the 2' gauge 4-4-0's of the Mount Gretna Narrow Gauge in Pennsylvania. The Mt. Gretna line was a tourist line owned and operated by the Standard Gauge Cornwall and Lebanon Company. The were beautiful little Baldwin "Americans." (4-4-0 type)

Correction,

Mt. Gretna finished up as basically a tourist line but they started off handling forest products and also supplying and moving troops at the Army National Guard camp there at Mt. Gretna.  But yes I would agree they had a couple of the most beautiful Baldwin "Americans" around.

#1: WW&F #6. I cannot even describe how great this one is.
#2: SR&RL #18. A good looking engine, she should have been one that survived.
#3: SR&RL #10. Just a beautiful engine.
#4: SR&RL #17. Again, a perfect engine for a tourist line. #17, #18, and #9 are the ones that would be most viable.
#5: WW&F #4. Not the best looking engine, but she would be just perfect on today's WW&F.
