Whats your favorite 2 foot engine!

It can be steam or desial. It can be from any railroad in Maine or the rest of the world that has 2 foot gauge! Mine is a list of 5 engines that are all in Maine!
1= Sandy River #7 2-4-4.
2= WW&F #10 0-4-4.
3= Sandy River #8 2-4-4.
4= WW&F #9 0-4-4.
5= Sandy River #3 0-4-4!

#1: SR&RL #23.  BIG 2-6-2.  More power, ar ar ar ar.
#2: WW&F #6.  Another 2-6-2.  Unique on the WW&F.

The following probably tie for #3: WW&F #9 and WW&F #10.  #9's historic, while #10 is a sweet little honey of an engine (as long as you treat her right).

Somewhere on my top 10 list are the Double Fairlies on the Ffestiniog Railway (just because they look really cool and are powerful), but I don't know them well enough to differentiate.

Also on my top 10 list would be Beyer-Garratts.  The two I saw on the Welsh Highland are big and beefy looking.

Can you tell I like big steam engines?  Big-boys are among my favorites.

2) SR&RL #24 (Have this one in On2 with Baldwin factory paint job.)
3) WW&F #9 (The luckiest engine on the planet! Sole SR&RL survivor, sole KCRR Survivor, Sole WW&F survivor)
4) WW&F #10 (Neat little engine)
5) B&H #8 (Rode on this one, Railfan's Weekend, Edaville RR, 1982)
6) B&B Ariel (Painted her boiler in Phillips 1985)
7) Brecon Mountain #2, Baldwin 4-6-2, very much like but bigger than SR&RL #23, still in existence in Wales.

I have more on my list but 85% are all from the 2 foot railroads in Maine! The other 15% are from the elevated steam 2 footers of the early Chicago L System!

I didn't know the EL was ever 2 foot. Any info on the web about that?
My favorite engine has to be Decauville #896 (600 mm gauge if that counts)  at the Lake Region Pioneer Theshermens Association in Dalton Minnesota. I have ran it a number of times.

Chicago EL is and was standard guage. Forneys were used but not narrow guage.

My favorites are the 2' NNG-16 Beyer-Garratts of Africa and Wales. I have never seen one live but I hope next year to cure that.
Meanwhile it is the big tender type 2-6-2's of Maine.

Matt,   WW&F engine 6 is my favorite.  With nice lines and that capped stack, it's the prettiest 2-6-2 that ever plied the rails in Maine.  SR&RL 24 is a close second.   Our #9 is my third choice, the Portland forney's are unique with those beautiful double hump cab roofs.

SR&L 2-6-2 #24 is my most favorite but its not on my list since it was scraped but it would have been my most favorite if it had surived to this day!

Hi Matt,

By definition, "favorite" can only have one object. Thus, "most favorite" is redundant speech. The same could be said of "most biggest" or "most largest".

In another thread, you used "more larger." Again, the "more" is redundant. This is larger than that - nothing more needs to be said.

I point this out to help you with your papers in school, along with any job application or article for the WW&F newsletter you may want to write. Good writing skills are very important in today's world of instant email communication. A simple grammar goof-up on a cover letter or resume will easily put your application in the trash for most jobs.

PS: I was the editor of a mostly-adult computer club when I was in high school.

You have your railroads all messed up. I think you need to review your history a bit. The 7 and 8 are ex Bridgton & Saco River Railroad/Bridgton & Harrison. They were never owned by the SR&RL. SR&RL #7 and #8 were 0-4-4 that were very similar to SR&RL 6, KC 4, WW&F 9. Now guessing that you are referring to the #3 that is at the SR&RL museum then you are again mistaken. The #3 is ex Monson Railroad not SR&RL.

Now my favorite is WW&F #7 in the AS DELIVERED configuration. Her lines were just perfect! The WW&Fitized version of her wasn't bad looking either.
