It's official: I'm retiring
« on: December 07, 2010, 11:55:41 PM »
Well, I got my hard copy disability retirement orders today, I'll be a civilian in March of 2011, just a few weeks shy of 15yrs in the service. Now, where ever I find a job is where I will settle at. Been a long battle for me this last year to get to this point. Whew, I need a beer. or two.

Congrats Robert. I made the transition 14 1/2 years ago. If I would have stuck it out I would have retired 2 1/2 years ago. Oh well. Now I'll work till I'm 70.

Congrats Robert - welcome to the "retired" ranks with the rest of us "Vets".

Maybe the next summer session all of us Vets need to get together and have a retirees "grog bowl".  Of course not while we're "on duty". ;D

I'm down depending on my work situation. I just started to get things going as far as packing and sorting. Long ways to go.

Hey, I'm here! I'm in Denver right now waiting for a physical and some computer stuff and I'll be moving to Macon Ga soon (I hope). I am officially a MR. now and belong to the "check-of-the-month-club". How are things up there going?

Congratulations, Robert. Everyone should try it at least once. (It took three tries for my dad to stay retired.) Macon is a long way from Sheepscot, but at least you don't have to worry much about snow and cold weather. And Macon is the home of E.G. Kight, one of my favorite blues singers. Go see her perform sometime.

Cheers -- Wayne

And Macon isn't far from Tifton and the Agrirama and its 36-inch (I still don't believe it is that wide) railroad. The engineers will let you run the engines in the summer if you volunteer to help out in the winter. They don't really like a nice hot fire on a 95-degree day.
Speaking of a really hot day, my son tells me one of his friends went to summer camp in Maine and the camp director one morning warned them that they day would be getting up to an unbearable 70 and for them to remember to use sunscreen.

Where ever I go I will find a place to volunteer at to gain knowledge and skills working on these machines. I'll look into that RR as well. One day I will make it up to Alna to help out.
I have three weeks and I will be moving out to Macon, so wish me luck!
