Heres a good one! To be a true WW&F fan you have to operate the handcar on the whole WW&F Railroad from the end of the current railroad and back to the station without stoping to rest!

Matt,  I've taken the handcar from Sheepscot to milepost 7 and back, but I stopped to take photos of the car in various places along the way.  That was a fun trip.  I also remember 4 of us racing the handcar to Alna Center to see how fast we could get there.  The last 1,000 feet to the field had just been put down.  I don't remember our running time but it was the fastest I've ever gotten to AC by rail, even behind Bullet Bob!

Ok Dave and Ed - It's true ... here's the ultimate "fan-ism"

You know you're a WW&F fan when ...

You meet your future wife on the track crew.  A year later you propose to her during a track weekend.   The dispatcher gives you the railroad so you can take her out on the handcar at lunch time.  You propose on the handcar while stopped on the trestle, trying not to drop the ring in the water.   She says yes - still not sure why!  The following year you have the wedding in the Head Tide church which is up on the hill next to the WW&F's deepest cut.  After the ceremony, a good railroad friend drives you to Alna Center in his Model A Ford.  You then have a special train take the wedding party from Alna Center to Sheepscot.  The special passenger train is possible because a dedicated group put new brakes on coach 3 so coaches 3 and 8 can run as a solid passenger consist.   You hold the reception in a tent at the railroad and food is served out of bay 3 of the car shop.  One of the highlights of the afternoon is a special train to take the wedding guests from Sheepscot past Albee's crossing.   At the end of the day another special train takes you back to Alna Center where you parked your truck.  You then drive up to Kingfield and stay at the Herbert, an old hotel which had a connection to the SR&RL.  Enough ...
