Clearing ROW
« on: November 18, 2008, 12:17:32 PM »
hi all,

I am just wondering if anyone can let me know when the cutting will start and what we do with the felled wood.

Thanks

Cutting will either start when snow starts, or the beginning of the new year, whichever is first.

This year we will first be cutting on the ROW in the parcel just south of the red cape in Head Tide, between the road and our land in Head Tide church cut.  We've been given an easement on it, conditional on our clearing out the trees.

After that I think we're going back to Sheepscot and finish cleaning out the parking lot (at least the southern portion of it).  From there I would guess we'll go somewhere on railroad ROW south of Head Tide.

For the trees we cut, we burn the branches and will either chunk up the trunk, or leave the trunk for harvesting.  Some of the chunked up wood ends up at volunteers homes, whatever is left on the ROW can be taken by whomever can get out there.

would that be near where the ROW passes by Head Tide Church Road and crosses Head Tide Road?

I am looking at google maps with the kmz file of the ROW and trying to make a guess.

I don't live too far away and would like to make a visit or two for logging the ROW.

That would be the location.

I can't speak for the owner of the property regarding removing the logs, otherwise I'd tell you to go ahead.  However you're more than welcome to show up with us to help cut off the property!

Could we get a little down at Sheepscot to start the fire in #10 with? Gettin' a little slim on decent firewood down theah.

As for kindling, time to cut up more rotted picnic tables.

What is the situation (if any) with the missing fill on the north side of the road? That is if this is something that can be talked about.

The land under the missing fill belongs to the red cape, and won't be replaced any time soon.

Just be sure that you don't cut up any picnic tables::)

Ira,
James means the red Cape Cod style house at the corner of Head Tide Road and Route 218.
