When I graduated from college in 1986, my parents took me to Florida on vacation to celebrate, and we camped at the Fort Wilderness Campground at Disneyworld. It was like no other campground on the planet because there was a network of 30" gauge track all over the place.
Being who I am and how I feel about this stuff I kept looking for the trains, but unfortunately they had given up on the system and it had been replaced by road trams.
In 1995 we went back again, and it was almost all gone. but once again being who I am and how I feel about this stuff I found an intact switch in the weeds right outside our campsite. I guess the scrapping crew was stumped about pulling up a switch so they left it behind.
Apparently it was an impractical idea: labor intensive, noisy, dirty....but what a hoot it would have been to stay at a campsite with a narrow gauge train on your doorstep!
