A piece of 2x4 works great, especially if the wheel bites into the wood.

Rather than figuring out where to locate or store a skate on each car, wouldn’t it make more sense to simply leave several skates in the areas where cars are normally parked? Maybe put a skate on each locomotive for the occasion when a car or cars may be left at some unusual location.

As for trigs under work equipment, what about hardwood blocks cut to match the wheels of the vehicle, secured to the frame of the car with light chain, along with a hook from which to suspend the block. A pair of the blocks, one at each end of the car would be sufficient.

General Discussion / Hacked!

I hate to do this, but I think this is the only way to let folks know. I was the victim of a total hack of my desktop computer yesterday. Fortunately, we figured what was going on before the bad guys were able to empty our bank accounts. But they apparently did steal my email address book, as well as my wife’s.

All this to say if you get anything suspicious-looking with my name on it, delete it instantly! Those of you who know me know how I always conclude my missives, so if you don’t see that word, delete!

Thank you, Bob. Thanks to you and a FundRazr donor, we are over the top now, at $70,111. Thanks to all who have and continue to support the Build 11 Project. We're making great progress. In fact, the December work session will take place this coming week.

Right now, the unofficial tally for the 2022 Build 11 fundraiser is $69,673. We need just $327 to reach the goal! Can you help?

Easy way to answer the question. Is No. 1 still in the enginehouse? Is it still jacked up?

Some years ago, I had occasion to ride a British Railways diesel multiple unit train on a branch line from Cambridge to Hull. The line was laid with opposing joints, and even the relatively lightweight dmu bounced and bounced and bounced the entire distance. It was an uncomfortable ride. In this country, the old Cedar Rapids & Iowa City interurban line was also laid with opposing joints, and after its lightweight but high speed interurban cars were retired and sold to various museum, restorationists discovered that the pounding on the joints actually drove the truck bolster up through the floors of the cars!

As of this evening, we are less than $2,500 from the goal. Help if you are able, please.

And just like that, now we're only $2,777 from the goal!

Are the grates and the ashpan present?

You'll need to talk to Bernie, Alan and/or Harold about making patterns

Now this is really odd. I saw Ron's most recent photo on my iMac about 2 hours ago, but now it's not there!

Thanks for the great photos, Brendan. Glad to see the roof is getting finished. And the windows do make a big difference in the appearance of the building. Now for the doors!

Yesterday I was at Rockhill Furnace, Pa., and in the course of my visit, I had a chance to speak with Dave Dimitrovich, Chief Mechanical officer for the East Broad Top Foundation. In the course of our conversation, he said, "The WW&F sets the gold standard for historic railroad preservation. Those guys do amazing work up there." High praise indeed!
