Museum Discussion / Needed: Good photos/video of the Moxie Christening
« on: August 07, 2022, 03:59:22 PM »
If anyone has a good photo or two, or video of the Moxie Christening to celebrate the Mountain Extension opening, I would greatly appreciate it.  I plan to give a presentation photo and info to my friends at the Catawissa Bottling Company with permission to use it in their advertising.

I was surprised by the number of inquiries I got for cases of soda next time I'm up so I will make every effort to have it available during FWW with some for "the Frig" and additional cases for purchase - at cost.

Your assistance with the photo is greatly appreciated:     Sincerely,   The Moxie Bootlegger

Based on experience of a project decades ago.  Ceiling panels can be done with hardboard Masonite, formed to a shape/curvature via steam box and a mold with clamps.  Once formed and stable, they can be given to an artist for mural painting and a clear coat sealer.
This is not too different than what shipwrights would have done for forming/bending hull planking and deck boards on sailing vessels.  You might be able to get some technical help from the craftsmen at Maine Maritime Museum in Bath.

Joe,

I would recommend using Google Earth to follow the railroad and pick out spots.  You should at least visit Pogue and at least one of the tunnels.  By using Google, you can pull off GPS coordinates that can be used in your car or a handheld device.  Of great help when navigating through the woods.  A word of caution, the ticks are crazy this year as we had a very warm and rainy winter.  I'll go back and check my EBT book and will let you know about anything else.  Also, stop by and check in with the folks in Orbisonia.  Courtesy of Wayne, we have renewed and good relations with Mgt.

Now is Wilmar just tamping or is he now able to raise and level?  Can it align (left/right) yet?

Highly recommend for everyone to see.  One day the WW&F will need to publish one as stuff gets finished.

If you think an 18 car passenger train is a lot, then go to YouTube and dial up "2102 freight train".  Before the passenger trip, the R&N hooked a 50 car coal hopper train to it first, and then upped that to 100 car.  In all fairness the 100 car freight were empties but it was all uphill for it.  There was also a 50 car loaded freight that was run so you know that 2102 can move at least a 5000 ton freight by itself.

If it's the kitchen above, it could be the addition of commercial range equipment which required the structural assist.  I know my viking range weighs almost 900 lbs, but we planned on it and put doublers in our joists and upsized the paralam beam.

I know we have a plan, but it's not planning per se that makes these things happen, as Wayne will attest, it's a whole lotta mind-numbing scrounging that finds these little nuggets.

BTW - did we get the needed GE wiring drawings and component diagrams that we were missing?  If not, let me know and I will get back to my contacts and dig some more.

Based on conversations I've had in searching for an Eastern European diesel-hydraulic in operating condition,  85 - 110 thousand dollars.  Shipping not included.

This appears to be the property which is the first Wiscasset town property the line crosses from our existing ROW.  The power pole sits at the end of what was the ROW embankment before the small bridge and the line crossed 218 just south of the driveway and paralleled 218 for a short distance.

A needed piece to get to Wiscasset (eventually),  I have wondered if it would be sound, (financially), to form an LLC and have members invest to buy properties and then use them as rentals and/or air B & B's.

Thoughts anyone?
