Yes-yes! PATCHES!
If you make them, they will sell!  ;)

Aaaahh.. I see!
Ok then,... given that criteria, finding lumber to feet the mill shouldn't be the problem as much as where to get them pressure treated.
But what I was wondering was using the mill at AC when it's running.
As I said, I bellive I'd heard that idea for it before, but not much other than "it's an idea."

I would think that 5 foot ties might be not be generally available but someone might be pursuaded to make them if they had a large enough order.  Considering there's 4 museums with a total of over 5 miles between them all, theoretically that means over 500 - 1000 ties are getting replaced every year among all of us.  Maybe someone should look into it and pool our resources if a source can be found.

I agree.
Furthermore, add the prospect of the Bridgeton rail revival and all the ties (that might be) needed for that project and you have quite the order of maganitude!

Is there sufficient cedar in area for the sawmill to begin production of ties? (I'm sure that's been asked by someone somewhere.)

Wow!
Now I saw a lot of great stuff down here at the Woodstock (CT) Fair this past weekend. With a bit of effort, I could easily see a multistate antique car show/exhibition happening.
I would not suggest it as part of "1910 days" as most antique autos postdate that time.
There's  a lot that can be done! We shouldn't limit ourselves... TOO much.  ;)

I so wish I could make i, but I'll most likely be under water then.  ;)

I made the hike down here in April this year,... it's gorgeous!
I wondered about the patch of land/sand to the right (east?) of the bridge location on the north (unreachable to us) side of the stream.
It looks like it'd make for a good swimming hole rec/picnic area! Only thing is, anthing put down there, ie: picnic tables, etc, would need to be hauled back up at the end of summer so the springtime floods don't wash it all away.

Heeheee,....
...if they're not too busy playing with the trains!
(Or horses, or steam shovels, or sawmill, or ground-sloths, or fruit-bats, or breakfast cereals....) :D

Seriously, I DO like the idea!

Concideing if you invite 5 or 6 bands, you can usually ge one or two to show up, it'd make sense to maybe have one or two actual bands, probably for later afternoon/evening time performance, and stick to more local musicians for the major portion of the event.
This would also allow the headliners to enjoy the days events while the others take turns playing durring the day, and vice versa.

Well,
while they're not exactly bluegrass, I bet I could talk Enter The Haggis or even Coyote Run into showing up!

Might talk to the CERM guys though, they have a summer music program where they use a flatcar for a stage.

Wow...
I think I've now proven that there's some sort of cosmic, metaphysical link involved in 2'ing, or Maine railroading in general,
that borders on telepathy.
First, when I lived in Portland, I envisioned 2'ers running on or near the waterfront.
Almost as soon as I moved to Ellsworth, the MNGRR moved into the old Portland Co. site. (Coincidence?)
Then, as I sat watching bluberries roll past me on a convayor in Elsworth, II dreamed of the tracks through town seeing trains again.
Lo and behold, the DESRR is no longer a dream! (Ok,.. TWO co-incidences!)
Recently, after many, many visits to Sheepscott/AC I  had the epiphany:
"Albee's field would be a GREAT spot for a music festival!"
Now, I was thinking bluegrass/folk, and or blues, but definitely something periodicic.
But you guys trumped me with "1910 Days!"
Just, when you do plan it in earnest, don't forget to invite musicians!

Aaaahhh yes,
I remember that verry image you posted quite well.
It apeared in several publications over the years!

Incidentally, CERM down in Willamantic, CT has a display of items unearthed during thier various excavations at the Columbia Jct roundhouse and yard, amongst which are several old links, pins and various whatnots from a century ago.
Worth a look! ;)

1910 Days, anyone?
Steve
I'm up for that!
Imagine eventually a day long school outing that included:
a) following a freight parcel from the "railhead" at Sheepscott to truck at Alna Ctr,
b) a working TOC sawmill,
c) possibly picking up some sort of produce from AC for delivery to Sheepscott....
(something YUMMY!)
