Steve might not mind building me one, but I doubt that he'd want to tote it down to Georgia. He couldn't ship it because down here, they use the unconventional 4-foot, eight and a half inch gauge.
What is the exterior of that building made of? Cedar shakes?
I'm glad photographs are put in the bulletin. I just hope some of them make it to the area newspapers for their use. The museum needs to get all the publicity it can garner to make the Maine locals want to ride.
The president of our Georgia Association of Railroad Passengers, an affiliate of NARP, manages to get quoted very often as a transportation expert. That gets our name in front of the public. Maybe the WW&F board members or president should write letters on transportation to the people who write about transportation in Maine and get quoted.

Stewart,
Thanks for the information about the Bangor newspaper and the event near you. That seems to be a huge undertaking. Was it done solely with volunteer help or do they pay some people? I don't know when Maine's best tourist days are, but such an event along the WW&F would seem to be a sure thing. I just don't know if all that could be handled by purely volunteer museum member labor. Unless as I continually point out, you get the New England Patriots cheerleaders then you'll get all the strong, male help you'll ever need. The next best thing is to contact a sorority at a nearby college for help. Then call the frats and tell them that the young ladies will be there helping but you need more volunteers.
Thanks,
Jock Ellis

Allen,
I'm embarrassed to admit this but I've never heard of M2FQ. Are these kits in HO or, since lasercut can make any size, are there any bigger?
Also, back to my original question, what about full-size plans for the reproduction building you put in Wiscasset at the tourist center? I'd love to put one of those babies in my backyard.
Incidentally, the newsletter was outstanding, I thought. Will the attic of the enginehouse be insulated? If you used it as a meeting room, as close as you are to Canada, you could get Red Green to come down and lead the opening prayer, "I'm a two-foot railroader, but I can change if I have to. I guess."

Thanks, Mike. Are there any plans by the maker for other buildings besides Alna Station?

Will the museum be selling plans for the reproduction shack that was placed in the tourist promotional place at Wiscasset? Also, what about licensing some laser-cut wood model manufacturer to make the buildings at Alna in various scales?

Bridgton & Saco River Railway / Re: The Films of Gus Pratt - part II

A friend told me that during WW II, the government took all the color film; they didn't want anyone filming the blood and guts of war in color. I don't know if that's true, but it is what I heard. I can't think of any Hollywood movies in color. Of course, I can't think of any Hollywood movies of that era, period.

Do these antique car people tell you in advance when they are going to be there or do they just show up and surprise everyone? If they tell you, do you try to get blurbs in the Bangor and Portland newspapers, televisions, etc in hopes that it might attract other people? Incidentally, what is the name of the newspaper in Bangor?
The manager of the GE Energy factory in Bangor, Johnny Martin, used to be facilities manager at the factory I work at near Atlanta. Nice fellow.

How do you get trucks for the cars? What does WW&N stand for?
Just think if you were a live steamer and made a scale two-footer to run on 7.25 (up there) or 7.5 (down here) gauge track. That would be almost one third scale.

Man, a lot of people can't get their 1/8th scale engines built that fast. Does it have a cast frame or built up? Also, does the builder have a website?

So how does one go about actually getting a permit now? I know the steam road firemen took home-based programs from International Correspondence School (or one like it) before taking their tests. Incidentally, when working at The Great Train Store in Atlanta, I met a retired CSX engineer who hired out as a fireman on the ACL in 1947. Part of his training near Wildwood, FL was spent learning how to fire a wood burner. Uh, you don't have that requirement do you?

Looks high tech. What are the five Ws and the H of its construction? Who, what, when, where, why and how? Oh, yeah, and drawbar pull.

I know the museum likes to maintain authenticity, but vinyl lettering will last 5-7 years while hand-painted lettering will not look good after two. I know. When I worked for a sign company, I re-painted our sandblasted sign with imitation gold and it didn't hold up anytime at all. Vinyl is so thin that it will look like paint to anyone over, say, two feet away. On the other hand, our company's owner told me that if it were up to him, he'd do nothing but hand paint signs all day. He loved it.

Stephen,
Maybe you could Photoshop in a train so they would see how good it would look and look southward for future development. Beautiful photo even without a train (2-foot gage).

I think ME's DOT just isn't any better in spelling than Ga's. What they meant to say was "No small despots" so that while it might be good to be king, it just isn't good to play king on the highway.
